I A short time later, according to Miss Shaw, Williams asked her if she knew anything about gamb ling. When she answered: "No,'* he her for two dollars, gave her the dice and the game was on. "I didn’t know whether I’d won or Joat. But they gave me back six dollars and seventy-five cants,” she told the court Later, an argument arose, when, according to Miss Shaw. William* attempted to put some crooked d ee in the same, and to which one of the other gamblers objected. Then came Mbs Shaw's sad awak ening: her fur coat was missing. Police were called and confis cated four pairs of dice and four decks of cards. Acting on the complaint of the missing coat, five men were held for gambling. Nicholas Londes. boxing’s miracle man, has pulled another I rabbit out of the hat. The enterprising Olympia match , maker has signed Jake LaMot’a and George Kochan to batll* in the big Grand River sports emporium 1 the nignt of September 29 in what promises to be one of the best mid dleweight matches ever staged in Detroit. The weight* are 165 pounds—one of the few times in his appearances here that LaMotta will meet a man as big as himself. A New Yorker, who only recently got his medical discharge from the Coast Guard, Kochan rates as one of the best scrapper* in the entire country. Manager Tex Fullivan predict* that George Kochan will stop Jake LaMotta in their fight at Olympia Friday night. Sullivan is the first man whoever predicted a knockout against La- Motta, the Bronx bomber, who has never hit the canvas in a brilliant ring career. "Kochan can hit hard and LaMot ta can be hit." Sullivan reasons. "Kochan will make Detroit fans for get LaMotta.” Backing up Sullivan'* prediction* i* Kochan’* good record—a record of 40 victories In 44 starts, many of them via the kayo route. Logan is the sensation who came out of St Louis after rolling up more than a score of consecutive knockouts. Kochan, who will be making his first appearance in Detroit Friday, was matched with I.aMotta at Mad ison Square Garden a year ago but the day of the match George, who was in the service at the time, was transferred by the Coast Guard to anolhee section of the country. Mike Jacobs recently tried to re-match Ihe boys but matchmaker Nick Lonries of Olympia beat the cele brated New York promoter to the punch. Among local ring fans much in terest has been stirred up in the 8-round semi-final between Hnw erd Fenske and Eddie Taylor. Fenske. new Michigan light-heavy weight star, has not lost a fight.
