Henderson, promi nent physician, who has practiced thirty years in Hamtramck, was honored by his love'ly wife at a surprise stag party in his honor Saturday night. Dr. Henderson comes from a long line of prominent educators. His father was president of Payne University, which he attended prior to pursuing his medical course. The nonoree’s brother. C. L. Henderson, is an outstanding engineer here. Mrs. Henderson cleverly plan ned the surprise so that the doc tor was out when his friends ar rived. When he arrived the gang broke into a number of songs, in cluding "He's A Jolly Good Fel low," "Sweet Adeline," etc. The good doctor, who has often been called "Balance," was quite unbal anced for a moment. Around midnight, a supper was served, consisting of baked ham. turkey, peas and carrots, rolls, rel ishes. coffee and nuts. The doctor was the recipient of numerous gifts, among them ties handkerchiefs, tobacco, books, lug gaga, a hyperdermic set and a beautiful wrist watch, gift of Mrs Henderson. S. govern ment and the state joined in dedi cating the federal recreation build ing at Twenty-fourth avenue and Nineteenth street, Sunday The site on which the building ts erected was provided by the City of Gulfport, and the city also as sumed the responsibility for operat ing this building for service men and women Funds for operational cost are provided Jointly by the city and the Federal Works Agency. About 250 guests were in attend ance and following tha program open house was held. Music was furnished by an arrrv band from Keesler Field Rev. E. Ackerson gave the invocation Prof. J B Greene of the recreation com mittee served as chairman. Mayor Speaks Mayor J. W. Milner gave the welcome address. Claude Lazarus, Federal Works Agency, and Lean dcr Blackus, Federal Security Agency, dedicated the building. Taking part in the dedication cere mony was Mrs. Frances Fitzpatrkk of Gulfport, member of the profes sional siaff. and Rev. F J Durr, Gulfport, who gave the dedication prayer Speakers on "Gulfport's Recrea tion Responsibility" were Chief William McClellan, navy, and Ma jor Irving H. Green, base legal officer. Mrs. Taylor has missed very few years during the tenure of her service. ROMULUS NEWS Musifashicade Fifth Annual Sigma Review Special features of the ,;na Gamma Rhos fashion show, this year dubbed "Musifashicade,” were the appearance of the Jubal Choral Society, the Dupre Sextette, the Westbrook Sister tap dance rou tine, the Moderniques Dan ce Group, under the direction of Miss S. Lavinia Moore, physical educa tion secretary at the Lucy Thur man YWCA, and Leroy Smith's orchestra in the pit. This was the fifth annual fashion show given by the combined De troit chapters of Sigma. Aside from the fact that the orchestra played too loudly, during the com mentator's patter, the show wen over to a capacity audience o* over a thousand. The nursery school children fron the Peter Pan Nursery literally Hole the show with their natural, unaffected actions and well-re hearsed bows and curtsies The fact that pre-school age children find it difficult fb be un-natural or affected added refreshing sponta neity to the scene. The opening was particularly effective with the awakening of a sleeping model to preface the modeling of morning and leisure time wear. Costumes for the Moderniques Dance club were particularly ef fective and were designed and ex ecuted by the Homemakers club of the YWCA.
