Originally, the measure was spon sored by Rep. Eaton of Plymouth |R) and was allegedly aimed at splitting the Detroit Democratic strength by apportioning the dis trict. Under the new proposal, there is a possibility that Negro voters could elect two or three members of the lower house in Lansing. • • • DETROIT DEMOCRATS in formed Dr James J. McClendon, president N A A.C.P. last week of tjieir opposition to the measure on the grounds that it only applied to Detroit and was designed to weaken their position. The asso ri.pion is supporting the amend ment. According to Tracy Doll, state representative from Detroit, when iho measure was voted out of committee amended to include all districts having legislators elected at large, "it was [ romptly tabled by the Republicans . . "Since that time, we of the Democratic minority have twice attempted to take the resolution over the table, but have each time been defeated by the Republicans. It looks very much like the reso lution will die on the table.” Kenneth Spencer Prominent Basso In Concert Here Kerne'.h Spencer, prominent b.t.sso, *ang to a large and enthu -ia-tic audience at Masonic Audi orium la>t Sunday.
