BEMIDJI—The auditor muddle is at last Settled. David Sylvester, originally appoint ed by the county commissioners, has won out in the fight. CROOKSTON—John Hoffman attempted to drive home his cattle, which had strayed on the land of his neighbor, when the latter and his hired mun set upon him and mauled him unmercifully. DULUTH—Pat Rivers and Thomas Kagan, longshoremen, quarreled aud the latter re ceived stab wouuds which caused his death. —Herbert W. Craig, aged 22 years, was ar rested on the charge of forging a postofflce crder. He confessed. WISCONSIN CUMBERLAND—Fire totally destroyed the farm residence of G. Deangelo. two miles south. LA CROSS——Henry Hudson and John Ben eon, old soldiers, aged 61 and 60 years, respec tively, were nearly burned to death while camping near Capoli Bluff. MILW... KEE—Lansing Warren, editor and publisher of the Sentinel, died yesterday. He had been actively engaged in newspaper work for more than twenty years. FUND DC LAC—Christ Geiger, a prominent farmer and stone and lime dealer residing at ftlarblehtad, dropped dead.—Byron Fairbanks, county surveyor of Fond dv Lac county, died uuddenly. ARCADIA— WesseII Lowe, aged 90 years, _U regained his sight after being totally blind for ten years. Notwithstanding his ad vanced age, he talks intelligently and enjoys good health. MERRILLAN—The Merrillan flour mill, owned by Nick Andrews _ Co., burned with nearly all its contents. The mill was full of grain and the loss Is $16,000 to $20,000, with $9,000 insurance. IOWA I<KLEVAN-John Volker, an old resident, vvus. killed by a horse. DUBUQUE—Clarence Rawliugs, if, years old, accidentally shot and killed himself while hunting rabbits. COON RAPIDS—Mn. Charles Hofflinger and a child of J. H. Marnitt were severely biittu by a mad dog. CEDAR FALLS—Mrs. Bucan, mother of Mis James Hoy, fell down a stairway and sustained a broken hip. It is feared she caunot live. ELiJON—Patrick Connelly, while switching in the yards of the Rock Island railroad, was instantly killed, his head being severed from his body. MAKSHALLTOWN-Thirty-one years an occupant of a madhouse is the record made ly Chester Bruce, who died at the county in sane asylum, aged 65. RUTHVEN—C J. Mueller -was burned to death. He was smoking a pipe when he was taken sick and sat down by the side of the road to rest. A spark ignited his clothing. MONTOUR — Dan McCoy, the 12-year-old Eon of Juhn McCoy, was fatally injured while operating a capstan. His skull was frac tured in two places and his face literally caved in. CEDAR FALLS—The case of John Benesh, of Vinton, has come to an end by the prisoner pleading guilty to the attempt to murder Miss Agnes Jirsa because she would not promise to marry him. Miss .Mrsa pleaded for clem ency for her lover, saying she would marry him. BLOO.MFIELD—Maddened with pain and liquor, Lewis McAvoy, a wealthy stockman rrsiding near here, upon being thrown from ;i wagon In a runaway, seized a shotgun and discharged at his two companions. James and Frank McVey. James was wounded in the breast and may die. His brothers wounds are not expected to result fatally. SOUTH DAKOTA PIERRE—The supreme court has admitted to practice Huberr M. Wallace of Elk Point, on a territorial certificate of admission. HURON—Lightning struck the farm resi dence of E. J. Wagner. A big hole was torn In the roof and the interior of the building was damaged. WATERTOWN—Adjutant General Conklin is looking after the organization of a troop ot cavalry here. This organization will give the state four troops. HENRY—As the result of their preliminary examination, Fred K. Moore and John Hayes, arrested on the charge of robbing the post office here, have been held for appearance before the next federal grand jury. HOT SPRINGS—One of the largest cattle deals ever consummated in this part of the west was the transfer of the Day & Creswell property to the Franklin Cattle company within the last few weeks for about $600,000. SIOUX FALLS—It appears likely that Colo nel W. H. Chase of Atlanta, Ga., who repre sents a New York syndicate which wished to establish a trolley street car system" in this will not be granted a franchise.—Thomas Wright, aged 79 years, was found dead in bed. NORTH DAKOTA GRAND FORKS—The Presbyterian synod took steps to have a Presbyterian college lo cated in this city. JAMESTOWN- Her. William Steele, who was pastor of the Courtenay Presbyterian (liurch until Oct. 1. has brought suit against the Courtenay Gazette for $10,000 damages alleged to have resulted from the publica tion of an article Sept. 6 last.
