NEW THOUGHTS. Are You Growing More Attractive as % You Advance in Life ? {*&* BY VALENTINE. '-* H* the mind keeps itself occupied with right thinking it is impos sible to be plain, ugly or un interesting in late life, says Ella Wheeler Wilcox, in "New Thoughts Magazine." "The withered and drawn faces of many indicate with ered emotions and drawn and perverted ambitions. The dried and sallow face tells the story of dried up sympathies and hopes. The furrowed face tells of acid cares eating into the heart." "He who understands his own divine nature will grow more beautiful with the pas sing of time. Are you growing more attractive as you advance in life ? Study yourself and answer these questions to your own soul, for in the answer de pends Hie decision whether you will really love and trust." "Given a healthy body," says Dr. R. V. Pierce, the specialist in woman's dis eases, of Buffalo^ N. Y., "and a healthy mind, and every one can cultivate and enjoy happiness." Riches do not make happiness, nor does it do to worry about to-morrow. Do what you can now. Do the best you know how, then boldly face the after-a-while. In nine cases out of ten the person who worries, who can't sleep o'mghts, and feels blue and at discord with all the world is the per son whose stomach is not* quite right. TO BE BEAUTIFUL. We must eat to live. We must eat Eealthyy roperl to be beautiful and to be . Digest well. If one article of food does not agree with you try another. But don't try cosmetics until you have corrected every fault of diges tion. Pretty women often sacrifice their beauty to digestion. It is a fact that any form of .dyspepsia may in a few days transform a clear, white skin Into a mass of pimples and black spots. A beautiful woman has the beauty of her stomach. The oft quoted phrase, "The way to a man's heart lies through his stomach,*' is true in a medical sense, for a distended stomach caused by in digestion will cause heart palpitation. If the stomach is inflamed or dyspeptic, the blood does not get the food it re quires. If the blood is watery, if it has accumulated poisons, every other organ of the body will sufferheart, liver, lungs and kidneys. Treat the stomach first. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery maintains a person's nutrition by en abling one to eat, retain, digest and assimilate the proper nutritious food. It overcomes the gastric irritability and aymptoms of indigestion, and thus'the LONG TIME IN JAIL Chris Norbeck Detailed at County Baatile Longer Than Intended. A tonic made up largely of alcohol will shrink the corpuscles of the blood and make them weak er for resistance. Cod liver oil makes the stomach groan because it is irritating. What is needed is an alterative ex tract like Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, made oi roots and herbs, without the use of alcohol, that will assist the stomach in assimilating oi taking up from the food such elements as are required for the blood, also an alterative that will assist the liver into activity and cause it to throw off the poisons in the blood. When we have ac complished this we have put the system into a fortified condition so strong that it can repel the germs of disease which we find everywherein the street cars, the shops, the factories, the bedrooms, wherever many people congregate, oi where sunlight and good air do not pene trate. " It has been seven months since using Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, and I only used three bottles of the med icine when it made me feel like a ne^t man," writes S. A. Miller, Esq. THE MAYOR PROCLAIMS He Issues a Formal Expression for Memorial Day. Following the example set by Governor S. R. Van Sant and to custom estab lished by his predecessors, Mayor James C. Haynes has issued' a proclamation urging the people of Minneapolis to ob serve Memorial Day in a proper manner. The text is as follows: "Memorial Day is again approaching, and it seems highly proper that atten tion should be directed to this fact and that due "observance of the day should be officually urged. "By common consent and by, the law of the land the 30th day of May in each year has been set apart as the time when this people shall pay its tribute of loye and reverence to the memory of the honored dead' who freely gave their lives in the .cause of human freedom and to p'erpetu*- ate this nation. "It is a duty'which every citizen owes alike to the departed and to the living to do all in his power to render the ob servance of this solemn festival as im pressive and beautiful as possible. "I, therefore, urgently request that so far as practicable all secular employ ments be suspended on said day that the national flag be displayed at half-mast on all public buildings that the residences and buildings of our city be decorated with the national colors and that our citi zens generally take part in the various services and' ceremonies appropriate to the occasion. , "Let us discharge this duty in a man ner worthy of our city and becoming to patriotic citizens.
