Eleventh Ward Republicans Will
Hear Candidates by Classes. i
The Eleventh Ward Republican
club, under the leadership of Swan
Nelson as president, has decided to
"systematize" the hearing of pleas o4
aspirants for political plums. This is
to be accomplished by* dividing the
candidates into classes and giving
each class an evening. The club will
meet every Friday evening, and next
Friday will give the candidates for
county office, from county commis
sioner to county auditor, a c-hance to
be heard, not including candidates
for congress and the "bench. Another
evening will be given to aldermanic
aspirants, another to those who desire
legislative nomination, and still an
other to attorneys who want to be
district judges.

held an open-air meeting last evening
at James street and Sixth avenue N.
Levi Gorman presided. The program
was opened on the fourth ward side
of the street, where U. G. Williams,
who wants to be mayor D. Dick
inson, aspirant for the district bench,
and Al Smith and C. S. Jelley, can
didates for county attorney, made ad
dresses. Th meeting then moved
across the street into the third ward.

Horse Lovers and Automobillsts Grooming
for the Club's Meeting.
Much enthusiasm is shown by automo
bile enthusiasts and horse lovers, now
that Dan patch is to appear at the meet
ing of the Minneapolis Automobile and
Driving Clubs, at Hamline, Aug. 17 and
IS. Dan Patch, although serving an ex
tended season in the breeding ranks this
spring, has already shown by his mile in
2:02% that he is very fast and the ama
teur drivers of the T^in Cities are enter
ing into the different classes In such a
manner as to assure an ideal class of
horses in large numbers in addition to the
world's champion.
The Automobile club, with its 150 odd
members, is taking hold energetically, and
club drives and box parties are already
planned for the coming event.
Asa Paine, chairman of the automobile
racing committee, is taking great care
formulating conditions and classes for the
automobile events. Classes have been
made for 9, 12, 16, 20, 24, 30, 40 and 90-
horse power machines thus giving all the
varied styles an opportunity to contest.
Valuable trophy cups and pieces of ele
gant silver plate are being secured as
prizes. There are already a large number
of entries in the manager's hands.
The Journal Newsboys' band has been
secured for the occasion and will appear
in fulL numbers, 50 or more pieces to be
present each day.

Real estate has certainly shown an
improvement the last week. Th
transfers begin to look more like
business. Th $1 consideration and
the expenditures of "love and affec
tion" passing into the background
and the sale of lots for small houses
goes steadily on and the larger agen
cies can show an average of a good
sale a day for July.
The David C. Bell Investment com
pany has just made three transfers
in the Blaisdell neighborhood which
means improvement with good resi
dences. The sale was made for a
Milwaukee syndicate. Walter Leach,
C. M. Higley and William M. Higley
bought lots between Twenty-fourth
and Twenty-fifth streets on Pillsbury.
This is in a colony of fine homes, and
the new houses will be up to the
standard.
What Building Permits Show.
The building permit record has
kept up its steady gait as in previous
weeks. Twenty-seven houses costing
less than $4,000 were put under way.
The fact that eight will cost less than
$1,500 is significant. Real estate men
look with great favor on the small
priced house. Seventeen of the lots
will cost between $1,500 and $3,000.
F. B. Long will build another house
on the hill, a two-story, brick veneer,
to cost $8,000. The street number is
910 Mount Curve. C. W. Hooker has
the permit for a $6,000 house at 1912
James avenue S, and W. A. Cook one
for a $4,500 house at 2600 Dupont
avenue S.

for Louis K. Hull. The changes will
cost $1,500 and are to be finished
about Sept. 15. Mr. Cooper has the
addition to the Harvard Chamber for
M. Ryan also. This will cost $14,-
000. Harry W. Jones is the architect.
The Improvement Bulletin reports
that E. P. Overmire is making the
plans for the Hobart Memorial church,
which is the outcome of the dissolu
tion of the Franklin Avenue Meth
odist. I -will be a two-story frame
building, to cost $5,000, at Blaisdell
and Forty-sixth. has plans also
for the Simpson church changes.

The Northwestern Knitting compa
ny's proposed warehouse at Western
and Aldrich avenues has attracted
more attention than any contract for
a long time. I will be undertaken

the northwest. Mr. Wunder has just
finished the D. M. Gilmore company
building, down town, of fireproof con
crete construction.
The Northwestern Casket company
has arranged for a brick addition to
its factory at 661-679 Seventeenth
avenue NE. The Ninth Ward Demo
cratic club will build a $600 frame
wigwam at Eighteenth and Central
avenues NE.
Minneapolis architects do an im sold
