Conflict in the Minnesota Bee-Keep ers' association, centering about the appointment in 1903 of a co-operattve committee to aid the progress of the bee industry, broke forth anew in the concluding sessions of the seventh an nual convention today. On the official program of the convention the execu tive committee of the association for mally announced that the co-operative committee had no connection whatever with the association and was practio ing a fraud when it used the namp of the organization on its letterheads. This announcement was followed by a cir cular bearing the signature of Walter R. Ansell, chairman of the committee, declaring the minutes of the 1903 meet* ing were tampered with and thit an injustice had been done by persons in the association opposed to the co-oper ative plan. Officers of the association denounce the charge in the circular as false. They declare that Mr. Ansel! represents only a meager minority of the members and is seeking to prostitute the associa tion's fraternal and social principles for commercial gain. They say he would turn it into a purely business organization and its purpose would be shattered by his plan. Mr. Ansell declares his committee was appointed in regular form and that no action toward severing it from the association was taken. He declares the persons whom he charges with making T,he substitution in the minutes of the 1903 meeting are unscrupulous and de nies his plan would wreck the society. The subject came to the attention of Sells More of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy than of All Others Put Together. The following letter from a locality where Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is well known shows by the unprecedented demand for it that the medicine sells on its own merit. Mr. Thomas George merchant at Mt. Elgin, Ontario, says: I have had the local agency for Cham berlain's Cough Remedy ever since it was introduced into Canada, and I sell as much of it as I do of all other lines have on my shelves put together. Of the many dozens sold under guarantee, I have not had one bottle returned. I can personally recommend ^this medi cine, as I have used it myself and given it to my children and always with the best results. 4| *0tmm Thursday Evening TO^ December Opportunities Occur Every Day on The Journal Want Pages Farm Lands. O. 0 the association when the period for the election of officers was reached late this afternoon. Representatives of poth factions were out in force, and prepared to stand by what they deemed their rights. It was voted unanimously by the bee keepers to invite the national associa tion to hold its annual convention in either Minneapolis or St. Paul next summer. The low rate of 1 cent a mile for the Grand Armv encampment, it is thought, will be sufficient to induce the national officers ta choose Minneapolis. The national association has a member ,ship of 3,000, and the delegates would number several hundred. Several highly interesting and in structive addresses were delivered dur ing the day. The beekeepers are liberal with their time for discussions, and much valuable information "was ac quired by the members by questioning and discussion following each address and paper. MORE BLIGHT TALK Horticulturists Seek Some Infallible Remedy, but in Vain. Blight was again discussed in the convention of the Minnesota State Hor ticultural society today. Hours were spent in the deliverance of opinions, but scant results [were attained. Scarce ly a member of the society has been tree from the plague. Each told of the efforts he had put forth to check the disease, but none had successfully driv en it from his orchard. A free parliament hour and-question box, led by T. T. The social evil will be the next thing to receive the attention of the Home Protection league. Rev. J. M. Cleary, president, said todav that the league had not been left without work to do by the closing of the Sunday saloon, but would not make any stir at present, as it did not wish to be too frequently before the public. Future efforts will be directed toward securing certain re forms in the red. light district. "We do not hope to abolish the evil altogether, but hope to place it farther in the background," said Father Cleary. "Personally the thing I most object to is the conspicuous and sug gestive names and numbers displayed by these places. "The illuminated numbers in the vestibules of the Eleventh avenue S resorts are plainly visible from the Washington avenue cars and are an unnecessary evil. They are very sug gestive and lower the moral tone of the entire community. If we must have this traffic, we can at least see that it is not flaunted in the face of the public to plant evil suggestions in the minds of people who otherwise would not come within its influence. "Another thing I hope to see done is the forcing of all persons connected with these places into the resorts them selves. At present the servants and retainers of the houses do not live in them, but lodge in places near by. The moral tone of these hangers-on is neces sarily lax, and they spread the influ ence of the places outside their doors." MEDIUMS FONDER ON PAUL JONES' WRITING Scientific interest is beginning to at tach to the unaccountable signature of John Paul Jones on th.e West hotel reg ister. Clerks Perry and Conry have been importuned to display the famous handwriting so much that they# are be ginning to wish that the American ad miral had remained in seclusion in an old Paris burying ground. The appearance of the handwriting on the register is just as far from be ing explained as it was Saturday night, when it was first discovered by Mr. Perry. It is believed by some that the mystery can be explained only by spirit ism, and certain spiritualists have de termined to sift out the facts in the case and see what solution can be ar Tived at. Meanwhile the register is being well thumbed and all sorts of explanations are being advanced by the guests who ask to see the handwriting of the fa mous terror of the seas of revolution ary times as they inscribe their own names in a book which promises to be come historic. 4fe glow wWon come* tnm n**d wot* Isn't altfkys to be fwo _ Hu eloth** ,ot tto* man wh& nas the genuine stamp ot genius on hr 7r [.'.iii^iyii^ui.UMA^^^J'JJ||IJ^ ^-'-r^fixiujya-^iay^g x^y^m^^ir^^l^e LOSTA PACKAGE OF FAMILY PICTURES, marked M. BASKETBALL NOW ON TWELVE CAinHDATES FOR 1906 TEAM REPORT FOR PRACTICE AND GO THRU PACES. The basketball season? of the state university opened yesterday afternoon, when the candidates for the 1906 team reported to Captain McRae for the first practice of the year. Only twelve men announced their intention of trying for places on* the team, but it is expected that before the week is over the squad will number at least thirty. The men who reported for practice were: McRae, Brown, Deering, Greaves, Uzzell, Woodrick, McHugh, Muir, Louis Larson, J. 0. Larson, Clarke, Critchfield and Campbell. Hugh Leach, one of the best of former varsity players and as sistant manager of athletics at the uni versity, took charge of the squad and put the men thru a light practice in passing the ball anti throwing baskets. The basketball season this year will be one of the most interesting in the history of the game at Minnesota. For the first time in the development of the sport in the west a western collegiate basketball association has been formed and six members of the big nitie will contest for the western championship. In the past, Minnesota has always had one of the strongest teams in the coun try, and altho the members of the team this year must be recruited largely from men new at the game, the gopher team should finish the season* with a credita ble record. At the next meeting of the board of control the basketball enthusiasts will ask that a regular coach be engaged by the board to take charge ox the squad, and it is probable that Hugh Leech will be chosen' as instructor for the 1906. team. Copies of the Michigan Daily, the official undergraduate publication at the University of Michigan, giving an account of the Chicago game, have been received at the university, and the gopher undergraduates are finding a great deal of consolation in reading the wolverine account. In the story of the game, as published in the Michigan, Daily, Umpire Rine hart, who ruled Tackle Curtis out of the play at the very start of the game, is accused of partiality, and the state ment is made that he- will never of ficiate at another game in which Michi gan is a participant. The publication further states that no attempt was made by Curtis to put Eokersall out of the play. ALCAZAR BEAUTIES NEXT. Following the Dreamland Burlesquers at the Dewey theater this week come the Alcazar Beauties, a company- of thirty-five people a little above the average in the burlesque and vaudeville line.
