was started by the unexpectedly sud
den end of the British railway strike
over the last week-end and the reap
pearance of wet weather in the belt.
The heavy rains. particularly in
Western and Central sections, naturally
increased nervousness over the supply
of white cotton of the better grades,
and later in the week there were ap
prehensions of lower temperatures,
with frost in Northern sections. It
was felt that killing weather might
cause a further soaling down of esti
mates as well as further curtail the
supply of white cotton, and while
futures showed reactions during to
day's trading as a result of realizing,
Southern advices reported a continued
active spot demand. Reports from the
goods trade have indicated an Improved
demand, particularly for finer goods,
which arc wanted for shipments ex
tending well into next year, and this
may have stimulated buying for domes
tic consumption.
