It is pointed out that the Seaboard
Air Line has been identified with
the South alone In all its history of
more than forty years. It touches
the capitals of Virginia, North Caro
lina. South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
and Alabama in its service to the
people of the South. The road was
started originally as the Seaboard
and Roanoke. and gradually spread
out. 1'nder the management of .Mr. I
Williams, the holdings of other lilies J
were acquired and the whole linked
into the present system.
The Seaboard will l>e represented
on Monday at the I. (\ C. hearing in
Washington to protest formally]
against the consolidation scheme, j
Letters of protest from all over the
South have been forwarded to the
commission by organizations.
The Richmond, Fredericksburg and
i'utomfto also will oppose being
merged with any other lines, it was
decided at the meeting yesterday. The
stockholders met at the Broad Street j
Station to transact such business as
came before It. including the elec
tion ru' present ollicers and directors.
W. T. Reed, of Richmond, represen
tative of the State of Virginia, was
presented to his fellow directors.
Reports showing that the $3,000,000
bond issue recently authorized by
the I. C. C. to take care of maturing
notes had been disposed of ended the
matter.
