(By Associated Press) HOT SPTCIXC.S, ARK.. May ? The ouesWon of activities of vixriotts hoards Of ttie church were discussed today in the general conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, gouth. in session here. Pr. H. K. I? Morgan. of Oklahoma, precipitated the discussion by the introduction of a memorial from the A\ est Oklahoma Conference asking that a special i committee of fifteen members he , constituted to devise ways and means of reducing the number of general 'hoards by consolidating some of them. ' At the present time the general activities of the church are carried i on under the direction of boards of : missions. Sunday schools, I'.pworth leagues, education, church extension and finance. The Morgan Memorial seeks to reduce this number to four. Under the new arrangement there will be a board of mission- having charge of all Methodist work in foreign countries; a hoard of church extension which would be the present board, with the addition of the home mission department of the board of missions; a board of education which would absorb the present board of I education, Sunday school and Ep worth league, and a board of finance which would care for the pensioning of superannuated preachers anil other purely financial itihfrs. I.rifnl Obstacles 111 nr. It was pointed out by those o[? * posed to the memorial that almost insuperable obstacles were in^ the way of such consolidation because of I "legal dlfliculties involving charters and the control of trust fur its. The memorial was adopted, however, and the college of bishops was asked to appoint the committee. A, feature of the memorial was Hthat no executive secretary or as sistant secretarj of any hoard should | 1-e a member of the committee. Thin ] feature. It was explained, does not] ? evidence a desiro to rule out all of the men who have had any expert- j ence with the boards, as much as It reveals an attitude of criticism which | a large section of the church has assumed regarding the conventional ' organization, It was said. Outgrowth of lllg Drives. This criticism, ty was declared, was an outgrowth of jhe Christian \ education movement and the mission ary centenary. The convention today received a I , report from Dr. C. \V. Tadlock, of ! ? St. I<ouls, and Pr. P. J. Prettyman, : , of Chattanooga, who, during the quadrennium had served as frater nal delegates to other Methodist b> dies. Pr. Tadlock was the repre sentative of the church sent to the general conference of the Methodist Kpisi-opal Church .it Pes Moines, > Iowa in May. 1020. Pr. Prettyman ? was fraternal delotale to the Oana , tiian Methodist Church. During the present general con- 1 ' fercnce fraternal delegates from other churches will deliver ad- : ? dresses here. ' The bishops today appointed a committee on introductions and fra ternal relations composed of the fol ' lowing members: .1. M. I topers, of Savannah, Oa.; Plato Durham, of "-Atlanta, <>a.; P. II. CARY MONTAGUE, MONUMENTAL CHURCH In considering (he importance of going to church wo must be care ful to remember what it really is?that it in going to God. When we think of it in that light wo must keep in mind too the thought that there are two sides to look at. Every man needs God, and God needs every one of us. It is not necessary to waste words in explaining man's need for (Jod. All history teaches it from the earliest times. We find that hu man beings have boen^seeklng for God, and trying to liml him in trees, rivers, idols, the sun* the moon, and philosophical theories of life. These all have been hut another form of "going to church." The other aspect of the matter, however, has not been so well recognized?God's need for man. What is it? Have you ever thought of that reason for going to church? That God needs you, whoever you are, however humble or poor or sinful. It took a loving, t en Oer-hearted Savior to bring home to tin this > side of the going to church question. When that Savior told us to come into God's presence with those blessed wordB "Our Father" upon our lips, He turned a new page in the history of religion. He revealed the Divine yearning of God for His children. Go to church next Sunday to find (Jod, but also that lie may find you, for He Is looking for you so eagerly with the great loving seeking heart of a considera(e parent. God's need for you Is (he need of a devotod Father for all children. Tabernacle Baptist Church RPISCOPAI* ST. JAMES CHURCH (Corner Orove Avenue and Meadow.) ! Dr. AUmtEY WlLUAMS, Pastor.
