NEW HIGH RECORD IN THE WHEAT MARKET May Delivery Sells at 1113-4, but Later Declines on Heavy Realizing. CHICAGO. Feb. S. A new high record mark for the season was established here today, when wheat for May delivery sold at $1,113 per bushel, surpassing by 3c the previous high point, recorded on De cember 1. Realizing by leading holders caused a loss of nearly all thc gain, how over, the net advance at the close being only 1c compared with thc final quota tions of the previous session. Corn, oats and provisions closed steady. The establishing of a new high mark in wheat prices was accompanied by more activity In tho vhcat pit than had been witnessed for some time, an urgent demand by commission houses being In evidence nearly all day. In addition to heavy purchases of the May delivery, there was also active buying of the J.uly option, which carried thc price of that de livery up more than 1 cent from tho low point of the session. Tho strength of the May option was duo to thc conges tion that una prevailed In that month for some time and to the continuance of an unusual demand by millers for cash wheat, especially in the southwest. The July delivery was bulllshly affected by the weather bureau prediction of a cold wave tonight throughout the winter wheat belt. Sharp advances In the price of wheat at all the leading European grain centers also contributed consider able strength to tho market In general. One of the leading- longs was a liberal seller on the bulge, and this caused a drop of about 1 cent in less than flvo minutes. Sentiment In the pit was less bullish in tho final half-hour and the market closed steady at about the open ing level. May ranged between $1101 and 51.113. whllo July sold between 993c and $1 .002. Tho close on May was at $1.101.10. and on July at 993c. The advance In wheat had a strengthening effoct on tho corn market during tho oarlv part of the day. but later sentiment became a trifle bearish, and at the close thc market was barely steady. At the close prices were a shado lower to ic higher. Mav closing at 633C3 and July at 6363jc. Tradn In oats was dull, but the mar ket was quite firm at times, owing; to buving by some of thc prominent hold ers of wheat. At thc close prices were lflc higher, with May at 52c and July at 463c. , . Profit taking by local longs caused mod orate weakness In provisions. The mar ket closed steady, with prices unchanged to 2c lower. RANGE OF THE LEADING FUTURES.
