OFFERS A BRIBE TO GAIN A "JOB" Civil Service Commission Shocked at letter from Would-be Letter Carrier. An applicant for examination for the position or rural carrier conceived the idea that he would expedite his appoint ment by offering the Civil Service Com mission a sum of money The applicant was duly prosecuted In the Federal Court. After filing his application for examl nation, he wrote the commission the fol lowing letter 'If It Is possible for you to give me your assistance and put me in as a rural letter carrier rrom this place, I will give you J2J out or my first pay and CS out of my second pay, making a total of SjO. I realize that's small to vou. but if vou please. If possible, help me that mucU" He evidently felt some panra of con science, for he added that lr his offer would do him no good the commission should not "allow this proposition to do me any harm." The matter was presented to the De- partment of Justice, which prosecuted the applicant for attempted bribery and se cured an Indictment for a violation or the criminal code or the United States.
