Grass came up from Kentucky a day
or so ago just to run In the White
stone handicap today. Short Grass ran
in this handicap and at the same time
convinced the throng that watched
the race that he was some race horse.
There was only one horse to give
Short Grass a battle In, this event.
Norse King, and though he had a
"slight pull in the weights Short Grass
ran away from him in the stretch.
j Short Grass demonstrated in this
race tnat ne win gie me uesi mumm
here quite some trouble when he
wears silks. In his debut, oyer a mile
and a sixteenth, he romped home in
1:44 4-5. which is just one-fifth of a
second slower than the track record.
What made the performance more im
pressive was that Short Grass wasn't
really extended in the final sixteenth.
