"SUFF" ENVOYS READY TO MOVE Plan Invasion of St. Louis Con. vention to Fight for Equal Rights Plank. Miss Lucy Burns, vice chairman of th Congressional Union; Miss Katharin Rolston Fisher. Mrs. Henela Hill Weed Miss Edith Goode and Mrs. W. Thompso Burch returned to Washington yesterda from Chicago, where they participated it the national convention which launche the Woman's Party. Other Washington delegates at Chicag will go to the Democratie convention i St. Louis this week, and will there hol< a hearing before the Democrats, urgin them to secure the passage of the Fed eral suffrage amendment at this session Miss Alice Paul, chairman of the Cor gressional Union, accompanied by Mrs Robert Baker, Miss Doris Stevens, Mrs John Jay White, Miss Mabel Vernot Miss Anne Martin and Miss Maud Young er will be among those who will atten the convention of the Democrats. Miss Burns made the following state men t: "The plank in the Republican platforn declaring for woman suffrage was th first suffrage plank ever adopted by on, of the dominant parties and indicate a tremendous national pressure behind the suffrage movement. The Progressivi plank espouses woman suffrage both b: the State and the Federal method. Plank Worded Cautiously. "The Republican plank is more cau tiously worded: but it is clearly devise< so as to leave it open to the Republicani to support either State or national suf frage if they wish to do so. "Republicans are not anxious. at thi, ime, to take any stand which will spee< .p Democratic action in favor of woman suffrage before this session ends. If the: declared for national woman suffrag, they would leave the Democrats nothing !o do, with 4.000,000 woman voters in the national field, but to pass the nationa suffrage amendment this session. 'Such a record would give the Demo rrats an enormous lead over the Repub lans in the twelve suffrage States, bu still the Republicans have it entirely in their power. if they should control the next Congress. to seize upon the suffrage ssue. and make themselves the party o enfranchisement for women." Lantelme. U. S. CITIZENS AREMENACED Mexican Situation Soon May Reach the Critical Stage. Outbreaks Feared. Mexican affairs are expected to take a critical turn about the time the Demo - cratic national convention assembles at St. Louis to renominate President Wil son and indorse his policies. Omcial reports from all parts of the Mexican republic indicate a rapidly spreading flame of anti-American feel ing. The Carransa government, which advices to the State Department indi cate is nearer than ever to the brink of n complete collapse, is either powerless to suppress the demonstrations that are taking place, or is making no effort to suppress them. Five different factions are at present operating independently of the de facto government, all of which, apparently are taking advantage of the presence of American troops on Mexican soil to undermine Carranza. Although both the State and War De partments were without any fresh ad %ices yesterday it was feared that at any moment news would be received of an attack on American citizens some where in Mexico. The State Department has been advised that a Paclfic Coast mail steamer is due today at Acapulco on the west coast to take off the American refugees there, and arrangements ha-c been made for the vessel to perform a similar service at Salina Cruz No re port has been received concerning the Americans still at Chihuahua. I is now expected that Secretary Lan ring a reply to the Carranza demand for a withdrawal of the American forces wil be despatched to Mexico City within the next few days. Mail Service Extended. Delivery of mail from the Washing ton Postoffnce has been extended to Friendship Heights, Somerset and Drum mond, Md. suburbs lying just a-ross the District line, along the Rockville Pike. Mall for the residents of this section which has heretofore been addressed to Bethesda. Mid.. and delivered by rural carrier from that office.
