FALLS POWER PLAN BOOSTED V United Interest Shown in Water Development Hearing. EXPERTS ASKED HERE Commission Expectec^ to Have Report Ready for Congress by December. The most strenuous efforts ever employed in an attempt to secure the development of the Great Falls water power project are expected to be made by Washington organizations when the Federal Water Power Commission, which was established recently by act of Conijtcss. opens hearings on the proposition August 24. 9 Invitations to testify at the hearings have been sent to the District Commissioners, the Board of Trade, i "h amber of Commerce. The District Commissioners are preparing a statement which they will present to the power commission Past utterances concerning the matter indicate that they are whole-heartedly in favor of development The water power committee of the Board of Trade has been instructed to attend the hearing. Capt. James F. Oyster, president, said last night- Capt. Ovster declarer* that "they would be ready to give any co-operation necessary to suet-ess" in obtaining a favorable report to Congress by the commission. Col. Robert N. Harper, president ?>f the Washington Chamber of Commerce, declared that "the chamber would do all that it could to secure perfected plans for utilizing the water power of Gre^t Falls." P. K. P. Company to Appear. The Potomac Electric Power Company will no doubt appear at the hearings. William F. Ham. president of the concern, said. The Water Power Commission is composed of Secretary of the Interior John R. Payne. Secretary of War Baker and Secretary of Agriculture Kdwin T. Meredith.. O. C. Merrill is the consulting engineer and Gen. Knoeh C. Crowder the legal adviser. Several of the greatest water power experts in the country will be summoned by the commission to study the project. It is thought that a report on the Great Falls proposition will be ready to be presented to Congress when it convenes in December so that the necessary legislation can be immediately enacted if the commission's recommendations are favorable. Sam Irvine and Paul I-azier. arrested in Washington last week v. hen they were found to be driving :i n automobile which had been stolen in New York, were taken back to New York yesterday by detectives. Irvine and I.azier refused to admit that they knew the car had been stolen.
