Oct. *4.?'The cotton trade was considerably upset early this raQjrning by Liverpool's sharp break which was ascribed to the efforts of the Hapsburgs to regain the throne In Austria-Hungary, to gether with the resignation of the German cabinet and the renewed crisis over the Irish question. Liv erpool spots went off 85 English points from Friday's prices which was the equivalent of 170 American points, with middling going down to the present basis of 11.69d and the day's total spot sales only 8.000 bales. Futures there opened weak and declined 30 to 40 English points against the rise of 3 to 7 points that market had been due to have sustained to have equalled our clos ing prices of Saturday. They rallied, however, later from the steadiness of our market displayed in the early trading' and finally closcd quiet at a net decline of 10 to 30 points under the lead lof the near months. Our market opened dull and heavy and declined 20 to 30 points throughout the list with OctobeV selling at 18 cents; December. 18.10: January. 17.88; March, 17.70. and May about 17.30. Those prices, however, proved to be thef"lowest of the day as the decline was met with a better trade demand than recently from local spot and commission houses and there was nothing like-| the outside selling pressure that had been expected frem the bad foreign news. Tills proved that the market had been pretty well llqui dated In the last two weeks decline | In anticipating the bearish Influence of tomorrow's report of the Census Bureau on the ginning of the crop to October 18. Shorts covered freely toward mid day on the rally In wheat at Chi cago and the stronger and higher stock market. The renewed ad vance In sterling exchange rates and the belief now general through out the trade?there will be no rail road strike?-also helped the market. TH'diy'i Open. Htfh. Low. Clone. Clo**.
