No sooner, however, had she entered the door, than she was seized by two men. gagged, her wrist* bound, and taken up three flights of stairs into a room apparently Weil furnished. JJere she whs kept, a close prisoner until about five o'elo-'k in the a'ter noon of the next day. or a little more thin 21 Inurs Without going into details of the im prisonment. suffice to say that every device of tore? and persuasion was put in requisition to induce her to accede to the wishes of the vil lains who made her prisoner, but without suc cess Force was made use of to make her drink, but she stoutly resisted, indicting some severe wounds with her teeth upon her iuhu uian adversaries. Oilers of money were at va rious times uiade, which she spurned iudig n.intly. During ail this time she watched for an opportunity to e.-cape. None, however, presented iUoil until lale in the afternoon of the next day, when she was for a few moments left alone, though, as was supjM>sed by her keepers, securely tastcned. Reduced todespe ratioD. she actually gnawed in two the chord which U'Und her wrists, seixed her bonnet, aud finding tho door of the room unfastened.rushed out of the house and made the best of her way, more dead than alive, to her own home. On her way she met one of the villians by whom rhe had been imprisoned, but in the open street he dared not molest her. Jler friends, , alarmed at her absence, received her joyfully, aud to theui .-he related her thrilling adven ture, at the sumo time stating she had tasted no food during the past tweuty lour hours On administering some nourishment to her she in a short time became delirious, and in that con dition re-enacted her part in the drama in which she Lad so recently been an actor, and out of which her virtue had come scatheless, ? * '"'y'" Putnam, a grandson of General lsrarl Putnam, died In F.lyris, last week. .
