Mr. Prown atk< d to be excused from serving
as a member of the committees to which he had
heen assigned by the Chair. lie said he was
the senior Alderman of the Board, and for
reasons that all would understand he declined

The question was put, and Mr. Brown was
?xcu?ed; and the Chair then stated his reasons
for tissipning Mr. Brown to the committees
had, which were that he (Mr. B.) had
announced thai his business would comfiel him
to be absent from the ciyr the greater p?rt ol
the coming year, and the Chair did not wish to
encumber the gentleman with business neces
sarily attendant upou a connection with prom
inent cornmith-es.
A cotnmumcation was received from the
Commissioners of the Asylum, asking an ap
propriation of ?5,000 to meet a deficiency in the
appropriation for support of the inmate? of
that in->tuuu<>u. The increased high prices of
provision* aud all the necessaries of life, ren
dered this appropriation necessary. The com
municalicn was referretl to the Commute* on
Asium.
Mr. Pepper introdnced a resolution authori
viflg tie Mayor to employ some Hue to attend
to Judiciary Square, and keep cattle l'rom run
ning a; large therein; but a bill having beea
parsed some time ago for a similar purpose,
the resolution was withdrawn. Adjourned.
