The following has been received at headquar ters here: HBADqUAKTKER ARMY OT THE POTOMAC', JSraL, Rappahannock Station, Va., s.4(t p. m , Nov. r.-Jo Maj. Gen. H. W. The morning was so f moky and hazv it was impossiole to ascertain at Rappahannock Station the position of the enemy, and it was sot until the arrival of the column from Kelly's Ford that it was definitely- I known that the position at the Rappahannock was evacuated. The army was put in motion and the pursuit continued by the infantry to Brandy Station, and by the cavalry beyond. Maj. Gen. Sedgwick reports officially the i fcpture of four guns, ei*ht battle-flags and over 1,500 prUoners. Maj. Gen. French took over ! too prisoners. Gen. Sedgwick's loss was about :>00 killed and wounded, and Gen. French's ! about TO. The conduct of both officers and men in each affair was most admirable. Geo. G. Meade, Major General. ! GUARDED AGAINST. In consequence of rumors of a purpose to ; attempt to escape on the part of th? 8,000 rebel officers now Imprisoned on Johnson'* Island, JSandufcky bay, the authorities here have taken most thorough steps to prevent the consum mation of any such design. ?rever's Theater. Those who remember Lucille Western at the commencement of her dramatic career as a girl of singular beauty could not have anticipated that la this short time should developed into the accomplished performer she has made her self by dint of hard study as well as natural qualifications; for the stage novice gifted with great attractions of person rarely comes to he a superior actress, from the fact that the vanity arising from the temporary success she achieves by reason of these attractions causes her to neglect the study so requisite for perfec tion in her arduous profession, and rely upon the gifts of face and figure as all in all. We do not at all fancy the "Oliver Twist" style of drama, but must bfar testimony to the singular power and truthfulness of Miss Western's rendition of the part of Saucy Syka, a rendering singularly free (despite its force) of all stage runt, or hysteria of passion. We commend her death scene for imitation by melo-dramatic performers who gurgle and squawk so frightfully through their la3t (stage) moments. Much the same praise may be awarded to Mr. Barron s Bill Fyka, a thoroughly repul sive character and not easily managed. The of Mr. Rogers was good, very good, as ?was the Br<ncn?<nc of Mr. Bokee, save where he spoiled the scene at the magistrate's office by laughter in the midst of his burst of indigna tion. But the honors of the piece next to those carried off by the heroine, must be awarded to the Dodper of Mr. C. H. Clark, a representation quite inimitable in its way. Mrs. Place's Vn Carney was also noticeably good. By the way, what a pleasant thing it is to have the tedium of"between acta" wiled away by such brilliant music as that furnished by Koppita, which music deservedly elicits its round of applause quite as invariably as do the best hits npon the stage itself. To-night, Miss Western appears in "The French Spy,' a part in which Celeste herself thin1*' W dav6, WRS not her superion we ] The Wedding ok Miss Cha*b.?Senator .'prague has arrived, with about forty of his friends, from fchode Island, for his wedding with Miss Kate Chase. Extra Session of the Massachusetts Legis lature??or. Andrew's Message. Bostoh, Nov. 11.?The extra session of the Massachusetts Legislature assembled at noon to-day. Gov. Andrew, in his message, reviews the legislative acta regarding bounties for recruits and says: "It has been represented to me by officers en gaged ia the recruiting service, as well as by many citizens and magistrates, that these boun ties do not oiler sufficient pecuniary induce ments to enable the required number to be raised within the two months which scarcely remain to us. "At the request of several municipal govern ments, and ol divers patriotic and public spirit ed jeople of the commonwealth, I have, there lore, called together the General Court for the single and special purpose of devising means to secure the contingent of volunteers assigned to Massachusetts, and to take such action in the premises as in its wisdom may be found ex pedient." In relation to volunteering, Gov. Andrew say s: "I am prepared, therefore, to assist in com mitting the Commonwealth to a policy for the payment ol regular wages to the Massachu setts volunteers in addition to all other pay, allowances, bounties and advantages hitherto enjoyed." The employment of colored soldiers is strongly advocated in tht address, and the bra very of the 51th Massachusetts colored regiment in making the assault upon Fort Wagner is eloquently referred to in proof of their fitness for ir.iantry service. Official Repobt or thk Battle ok Get tysburg.?Gen. Meade's detailed report of the battle of Gettysburg, dated 1st of October, was racially promulgated yesterday. He gives as the reason fo- the delay in making it, the failure till then of receiving the reports of sev eral corps and divisions commanders, who were severely wounded in the battle, and says that the result of the campaign may be briefly stated in the defeat of the enemy at Gettys burg?his compulsory evacuation of Pennsyl vania and Maryland, and withdrawal from the Upper Valley of the Shenandoah, aud iu the capture of 3 guns, 41 standards, aud 13,6*21 prisoners. Besides this, 24,97? small arms were collected on the battle-field. Our own losses were very severe, amounting, as will be seen by the accompanying return, to 2,"31 killed, and 13,700 wounded and 6,613 missing? in all 23,l?ti. He adds his tribute to the heroic bravery of the whole army?officers and men Gen. Meade estimated the Confederate army in its advance at that time to be 100,000 strong. LOCAL NEWS. Vice in Wa?hingten. NOT QL'ITK SO BAD AS I'.BPKKSKNTBD. The statement that there are 15,000 prostitutes in and about Washington, has been repeated ; so often as to be accepted as truth, the swarms | of them meeting the eye at every turn seeming | to afford full corroborative testimony to the ; allegation. The numbers, however, appeared j so incredibly enormous that we have felt dis ; pesed to make some inqniries in regard to the matter, and find that though the army of pros titutes here is fearfully large, it does not ap proach the loose estimates alluded to above. * The number of white prostitutes housed in the various wards, may be set down at the following figures:?First Ward, 530; Second | Ward, 519; Third Ward, 105; Fourth Ward, j 200; Fifth Ward, 310; Sixth Ward, 200; Seventh | Ward, 45l>. Total, 2,313. The number of these resident in Washington j bHiore the war was abont 350. The colored j prostitutes now in Washington and honsed, I are set down at 1,542, and of this number eeven-eignths have been colonized since the war broke out. At least a third of the Whole number, white and black, are street walkers of a character of unblushing indecency never before known in Washington, and are colonists from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Balti more, and some lew from the western cities. The whole number of public prostitutes of every grade and color In Washington will aot exceed 5,000, of whom not more than a tenth resided in the District of Columbia previous to the war. There are a number of females sailing under false colors afloat here, and who, until they are lound out, frequently manage to quar ter themselves at respectable boarding houses and hotels. It would be difficult to estimate the number of these, but It is not large enough to materially swell the above estimate. Adding to this estimate the number of prostitutes in Georgetown and Alexandria, the total will not, we incline to think, reach the halt of tifteen thousand. The showing at best is not an agreeable one, but it is some satisfaction to know that it is not quite half so bad as represented. Akfairh at thk Navy Yard.-Every de partment of work at the Navy Yard is kept in full blast. Along the wharves are quite a number of vessels, some ol' which have lately been repaired and placed In trim for service. The Tulip has lately had some important ad dition made to her machinery. The Bibb has lately been overhauled, and the painters have her now in hand. The Western World, of the North Atlantic Squadron, has had an exten sive overhauling, and is being made ready for sea. The mortar schooner Ileacon ha* been placed iu fine irim for service. The iron-clad Sangamon is still at the. vrharf, and it was de. termiLed to place her on th* ways to clean her bottom, but it has been found that she draws too much water to allow that to bedoue, and a purchase is now being rigged by which to d'u the work. On Monday last, most of the colared hands employed in the anchor shop struck for higher wages, demanding S1.75 instead of S1.50, which they have been receiving heretofore. Their demands were not acceded to,and twenty.nine of them were discharged, and this mom in r twenty-five white men were set to work at the old price, Sl.50 per day. McNulty and Fat'k Grady, two of the gang who were sent to the workbouse a few days ago, were at large again yesterday, how we have not heard, but presume they were fugitives. Yesterdayaf temoon James Bragdon, the driver of Mr. J. T. K. Plant's wagon, was with his horse and vehicle on Eighth street, and went into a house leaving the horse at the stand. He came out and his horse and wagon were gone. Mr. Plant was put on the traek, and by ad vice ot the police took a hack and went out on the Baltl-* more turnpike to the toll-gate and found his horse and wagon in possession of the boys on the road. He attempted to take his property by jumping from the hack and seizing his horse, and he was resisted by the young scamps, and in the scuffle he was thrown down and run over by the horse and seriously in jured. The scamps were subsequently arrested by M. Grady, fully identified by Bragdon, and were sent to jail for court. Two others of the gang connected with this act are yet at large. iNCENDTABY Fihe.?Yesterdayevening, about six o'clock, fire was discovered in a stable on tbe premises occupied by D. "E.
