Kobert Decker, formerly doorkeeper in the
New York State Assembly, and his two son-,
residents of Cireenport, near Hudnon, were
drowned in the river. opposite Catskill, Satur
day morning. The roundest son was collecting
flood-wcod when he"fell overboard. His father
and btother attempted to rescue him, and they
were all drowned- The bodies were recovered.
A collision occurred Saturday afternoon on
the S<?ith Carolina railroad, tire miles from
Charleston, between a regular passenger train
and a train with several hundred colored peo
ple bound for camp-meeting. One coloredbo?
was killed and several colred persons were
wounded.
An old man named Wm. -Jones was danger
ously stabbed by a boy num. d Charles Adam-,
in Utica, N. Y. Friday sight. Hut recovery is

The grand Jury of Chicago has ealled the at
tention of the authorities to the loose manner in
which public buildings and dwellings are erect
ed in that city.
The tiovernor of Illinois lias ottered a reward
for the capture and conviction of person* who
lynched Joseph C. Karasoy, of Putnam county,
a person accused of crime.
The government has bought Halstead's torpe
do boat at New York, the weight of which Is
twenty-five tons, and ten men can man it. It
was built during the war at a cost of f 100,000.
Cardinal Antonelli. In his reply to Von Beust,
holds to the position of tho Court of Home, and
deplores the spectacle of Austria leading the
opposition among the Powers.
Spain will no longer pay the salaries of those
bishops who refuse to take the oath of allegi
ance; but the government, not having appointed
them, cannot displace them.

The Indians of Mill Creek, Tehama county,

county, riddling his body with bullets.
The corner-stone for a monument to the Con
federate dead was laid in Memphis on Saturday.
Mr. Murdella is mentioned as the probable
successor of Mr. Bright in the British cabinet.
Philadelphia, generally slow, has determined
to have a morgue and free public baths.
Wonderful stones of gold discoveries are tele
graphed from New Mexico.
Inos Bri< k.?Mr. Joseph Woodward has
taken out a patent which m ?v turn out to be of
^reat lmjortance to ever* iron smelting district
in Kngland. The millions ol tons of -?lag run
ning ttom tlie blast f urn ices, and piled up In
-ucn unsightly heaps in all such districts, ate to
be utilixed in the manufacture of the new brick.
It is stated that the brick is d imp-proof, that it
.s v?ry solid and firm, without llaw; and pleading
to th?*eve. The inventor opines that it is likely
at onre'to take the place tor ornamentation at
pres? nt occupied by the Staffordshire blue
brick. Mr. Woodward's brick can, it seems, be
produced so economically, tUat they can be
offered at less per thou-aml than the ordinary
clay and tire bricks.

Men's Christian Association, at Louisville. Mr.
If. Thane Miller, of Cincinnati, related a laugh
able incident. He and another Cinrinnatian
were introduced to a school in Halifax. The
teacher told his pupils where Cincinnati was,
and added that they bad more and bigger hogs
there than in any place else in the world, and, (
said he, '-We. have two representatives here to
day." Mr. Miller said It was a mixed compli
ment, but they had to take it.
