The attorney (Mr. Saunders) ror defence objected to the tes timony of Robert Oyrenforth, witness, he not being a believer in the Christian religion. The objection was overruled, the witness having al ready been sworn. The witness testified the* on the morning or the 4th of July the accused as saulted his wife by throwing her on the stove while she was in a delieate state of health, and struck her on the head. Mary Meeks. for assault and battery on Me loina Stewart on the 7th day or July, plead guilty, and was lined*3 and costs, making $12 50 Mary- Graham, for threats against Margaret Allen, was arraigned, when Margaret stated that she was afraid of the vengeance threatened against her. The Court discharged the ac cused. Lewis .Johnson, for assault and battery on Lizzie Staten with intent to kill. Officer O Hare teetitted to the arrest, and that the ac cused came out or the houae or prostitution with a pistol in his hand. Lizzie Staten testified that the accused came into her house on Saturdav and asked for a night's lodging, and on being refused caught up a pistol and committed the assault on her, and afterwards fled, when the officer was called and made the arrest. The Court required the accused to give bond in the snm ot MOO ror his appearance at the Criminal Court to answer the charge. George Smith, for assault and battery on the ? th day of July on Christianna Fuller. Prose cution stated that Smith beat her and tore her clothes, leaving her leg black and bluerrom the ankle to the knee. In trying to run out or the hou^e he caught hold ol her dress and tore it at the same time striking her on the head. The defendant was required to pay costs and give security in the sum of *30 to keep the peace Ferdinand Ginqeuor, charged James Grady with the larceny or six vards or cotton. Wm ?Jones testified to seeing Grady snatch the bun dle or cotton rrom complainant. The accused was ordered to get bonds in the sum ef or *loo for appearance before the Criminal Court, and to stand committed until bonds are given. The court took a recess until one unlock. Maria Davis, charged with assault and bat tery on George H. Bias. Plead not guitly. Con victed and fined one cent and costs. Commit ted until costs are paid. United States vs. Flora Miller, for assault and battery on John C. Cleary on the luth day of July. Found guilty, and the Couit fined de fendant *1 and co*ts (*13.) Flora Miller, charged with using profane and indecent language, lhis was a separate charge, growing out of the same occurrence. Defend ant was fined *"? and costs. Nellie Howard, for assault on John C. Clear* by throwing a bottle through a wiudvw at him". Dismissed. Flora Miller and Nellie Howard were required to give bonds in the sum of *50 each to keen the peace toward John O. Cleary. Samuel Kaymond, a youth, charged with the largeny or several bottles of minerai water from l)n* ?*. Kiley A. Shinn's wagons. The floor is covered with grass matting, ami there is a row of arm chairs around the room. There is a railing put across th.- room about midway. On the iloor above, in tre rront room, is the office of the Secretery to the Fire Commissioners, and in the room ad Joining the office of the Secretary to the Board or Health. The basement is to be fitted up with oells for prisoners. In a small room adjoining the court room is to be fitted up a telegraph office, communicating with all the police sta tions in the District. On the tirst tloor. under the court room, is the Clerk's office, and in the hack room the office of the District and Corpor ation Attorneys' and Marshal s office. The tit ting and furnishing of these rooms are tempora ry, and will be replaced with fixtures better suited to the requirements of the Court.
