Tlic II. D. Cooke & Co. Suspension. a compromise with the creditors. Mr. H. D. Cooke, of the recently suspended firm of H.D. Cooke & Co., bankers, has made an offer of compromise to the creditors, looking toward the Immediate settlement of minor claims and an extension of time on larger ones. Those most Interested express a willingness to allow three or four years' time for the settlement of their claims, believing that the failure was an honest one, and that the assets will eventually realize more than the liabilities of the firm. The creditors representing a majority of the Indebtedness have consented that all claims under 1100 shall be settled at once, and arrangements for this will soon be made. Tbe City TIarkets. Thefts Reported.?Richard Crowther, 717 I4tn street northwest, reports that his house wa3 entered Thursday nhru't and a silver-plated pitcher and a hat were stolen, value ?24. Chas. W. Convicted of Stealing opera Glasses.?Charles Miller, colored, was employed about the llrst of October to as-tl3t in cleaning the residence or Mr. AlexanderBbss, No. 820 Connecticut avenue. While so employed a pair of French opera glasses were stolen from the house. The theft wus reported to the police, end Miller was arrested. The opera glasses were recovered from a pawn shop, where Miller had pawned ihem. Milter claimed that, Mr. Bliss' servant gave them to nlm, but the servant denied it. The case was before Judge Snell to-day, and after the glasses had been returned to Mr. Bliss, he fined Miller $25 or 60 days In JalL Tee Trial of Benson Stewart for Murder Postponed Till Next Friday.?This morning in the Criminal Court, Judge Wylle, the case of Henson Stew art. Indicted for the murder of George Carter, alias Foster, postponed from yesterday, was called for trial?Messrs. T. F. Miller and Hewlett & shea for the prisoner and District Attorney Worthington pn secutintr. The latter stated that the wb ness, Edward Stewart,had not been summoned, and asked that the trial be postponed to next Friday, and this request was granted. Verdict against the B. and O. Rarroad Compart.?To-day, the Jury in the case of Martin Flannery agt. the B. and O. railroad, (which has occupied the Circuit Court for severai days), alter being out since yesterday, found a verdict for $5,000 damages. The action was for $!0,000 for Injuries received In an assault.
