The total number of boxes of clothing sent away from the city was 303, distributed as follows: Johnstown, 158;Lockhaven. Quite a large quantity of supplies of clothing and food was sent to the rooms of the As sociated Charities in this city, where they will be distributed to the needy in this city and vicinity. Mr. E. Kurtz Johnson, the treasurer of the citizen's relief committee, to-day sent a check for #100 to Dpton Darby, at Seneca, Md., for distribution among the flood sufferers in that vicinity. Gray, the chairman of the com mittee organized for the relief of the Johns town sufferers, with headquarters at the Pa cific building, has sent a detailed report of the work of the committee to the citizens' relief committee. He states that the total contribu tion made through the committee amounted to #667.10. In addition a large quantity of cloth ing and supplies was dispatched. The com mittee was composed of the following named: H. J. Gray, Armat 8 tod dart, Mrs. Grace M. 8tod dart, James H. Vermilya, Dr. 8. W. lio(ran, Wm. Berlin, Geo. E. W. Sharrette, Miss Julia Maedel, and Mrs. Anna Wilson. The committee wan organized on the evening of the 2d instant at the residence of Mr. Armat Btoddart and went at once to work. When the general re lief committee was organized they co-operated with them. PUBLIC SCHOOL PUPILS HILP THS CAUSE. The entertainment given by the pupils of the Towers grammar school at Odd Fellow's hall, Navy Yard, last evening, under the manage ment of Miss Nellie Mack, for the benefit of the Johnstown and C. and O. sufferers, was a bril liant success both financially and artistically. The hall was crowded to its utmost capacity. The program was as follows: Opening chorus by the school: piano solo, Miss Josephine Ku bel; wand drill, Capt. H. G. Kimball, leader; vocal solo, Miss Hattie Meades; recitation, Mr. S. E. Kramer; flag drill, Capt. Ferree, leader; quartet. Misses Meade*, Kimball, Kubel, and Mmonds; military drill by the High School Prize Cadets, Capt. Ferree, leader; chorus, Good Night, by the school. The feature of the evening was an original poem written for the occasion by Mrs. Beth L Clark, entitled the '?Johnstown Disaster,'' and delivered by Mr. 8. E. Kramer. The Chinese Sunday school, which holds its meetings Sunday afternoons at the church of the Ascension, has manifested its sympathy for the flood sufferers by voluntarily contri buting through Ths Stab the sum of #30 for the Johnstown sufferers and #17.25 for the un fortunates along the canal. The Sundav school is under the charge of Mr. Browne Lawrence, as superintendent. The collections were made through the efforts of Mr. Pun War bang and Chong Lee, who state that not one of their countrymen declined to contribute something. The entertainment given Wednesday evening at the Bijou theater, under the auspices of the W ashington Pott, and Mr. Harris, the proprie tor of the theater, for the benefit of the flood sufferers, netted the haudsoue sum of #258.85. The President has caused to be referred to the Secretary of State telegrams expressive of deep sympathy with the people of the United States, on account of the recent Johnstown dis aster, from his honor, John Harris, mayor of Sydney, Australia; Mr. Edwin Grove, of New port, Monmouthshire. England; the Hon. H. A. Atkinson, Premier, Wellington, New Zealand, and His Honor Mayor Galloway, of Brisbane, Australia. To each of these gentlemen the Sec retary of State has made fitting and prompt re ply in the name of the President aud of the United States. Another telegram from the general manager of the Lion fire Insurance company of London of the 6th instaat, ex pressed a desire, on behalf of the directors thereof, to contribrte one thousand dollars to the relief fund of the sufferers by the flood. The President, through Mr. Blaine, accepted this voluntary donation on behalf of the stricken sufferers ana requested the manager to.deliver the money to uie United States minister at London to be forwarded here. The Catholic University Site litle. In the Court in General Term, to-day, the case of Cardinal Gibbons against David Daly et al. was vargued and submitted. The object of this ease is to remove a cloud on the title of the site of the Catholic university, included in what was once "Turkey Thicket," and in which the jdefendants claim a tenth interest JThe property was, prior to 1803, owned by Henry Daly and since then has been in the possession of the Middleton family, and it is alleged that the failure to record a payment made three fourths of a century ago ereates the flaw. Coroner Patterson saw the body this morning . and said he deemed an inquest unnecessary, I whereupon Dr. Peter gave a certificate ?.f death which ascribes the cause to an overdose of bromidia. The police have not yet obtained any clew as to the whereabouts of A. Monrote, the gold smith who recently disappeared from this city after pawning a number of watches, as hereto fore mentioned in The Stab, but it is thought that he is in New York. Frank Monrote, a son of the missing man, went to New York about two weeks ago. His father said that he had gone to the Paris exposition, but, notwithstand ing that statement. Frank soon returned, and then his father went away. Thus far Inspector Julock has recovered from pawnshops about fifteen watches that were given to Monrote by jewelers to repair. Complaints of about thirty more missing watches have been made. The Death Record. John M. Hauree, of Pennsylvania, was brought from Woodbridge on the Alexandria and Fredericksburg railroad to the station house in Alexandria yesterday evening by Lieut. James Smith, of the Alexandria police force. The prisoner was accompanied by Mag gie Taney, with whom he had left Phenixville, Pa., and by Geo. W. Taney, the girl's father! who bad charged Hauree, as telegraphed to the 8tab yesterday, with the abduction of his ?laughter. The girl acquitted Hauree of ab duction acd said she had freely gone with him Hauree decjared that they had run off together to get married, but that on arriving in Viririnia they found that as the girl was under age and both non-residents, he could not get a marriage license. He gave no reason why he did not marrv the girl in this city, where there would have been no difficulty in getting a license. He professed his willingness to carry out his engagement to marry Miss Taney on their re turn to Philadelphia, and the father, having n,l8 consent, the bridal party left for Philadelphia and passed through this city on the evening train. That is not depreciating Miss Carle s vocal ability in the least, fcr she is really superior in that respect to most of those bywhom she is surrounded; but no woman can acceptably cope with a score written for a male voice.
