The funeral of Miss Sallle Gray, who died last Sur.day morning of typhoid fever, aggravated by spinal meningitis and other complaints, took place Tucj-day afternoon. The Bev. The interment was made iu laurel cemetery. ? Mr. W. A. Miles, the contractor for repairing Washington avenue, will complete the first coat of four Inches of gravel on the bed of that thor oughfare this week. He will then put on a four inch coat of white gravel, and the street will l>e carefully rolled to pack thw dirt. The crossings will be raised to conform with the new grade and the street put lu first-class condition. The public schools of the county close Monday next. There are now good prospects for Laurel tielng a well-paved city. Mr. A. M. Bond has the con tract for laying.brick sidewalks here. By an act | of assembly it requires the signatures of a major ity of the property owners before the city council can direct the laying of any brick sidewalks, rs the property owners have to pay for the work.
