Machine in Danger. ial Corre.poiuleiicf of The Star. BALTIMORE. Aid.. October 14. 1911. The political wiseacres are t?kv //?? ? casting the election ?>f a republican gov11 aur and a democratic legislature this tail They base their prediction upon the ground that the grand jury fraud exposure has cast a shadow upon the demotruth nominee in the city, and that the Independent democrats will cut (Jurman to a great extent as a rebuke to the aiahon ring, which carried all four uistricts in the city and made the nomination of the Howard county senator possible. This is especially true it; r> gard io Baltimore county, the stronghold of Representative Taloolt, who was one of the leaders in the Lae camp. in this county the Gorman leader was Walter Townsend, who died last week, and upon whom had devolved the county leadership in the present campaign. Taibott, who lias been in "retirement" since the primary, is now supreme, and those who know him best assert that Gorman's defeat next November would prove to him a dainty morsel. It Is known that the lieutenants of Taibott are not working for party success as in days gone by, and those who followed Townsend in the primary are now making overtures and endeavoring to get back into the Taibott fold. Befuse to Follow Lee. The same conditions prevail tn Prince Georges and Charles counties, the Lee adherents In the primary refusing to follow the lead of the Montgomery senator and whoop it up for Gorman. The principal leaders of the lee fight, among them Charles Benedict Calvert of Prince Georges, have come out openly and announced that they will vote for Goldsborough in the coming election. In Gorman's own county?Howard?there is a serious, defection, and while there is not the slightest doubt that Gorman will carry Howard, the claim is made that It will be by a greatly reduced majority. Gov. Crothers, too, is not exhibiting any great enthusiasm in behalf of the ticket, and predictions are being freely made that his county?Cecil?will give Goidaborougii a good majority. His attitude in the present fight is best illustrated by a little story going the rounds in inner political circles. A certain element of "the party wanted the governor to call an extra session and allow the legislature to make an investigation of the fraud charges and conduct the recount. This element frankly told the governor that unless he called an extra Bession they would not support the democratic ticket. Crothers listened to the arguments and threats and then calmly replied: "It does not make the slightest difference to me whether or not you support the ticket; I have nothing Well.YouCou 'Cofivrislit t,v Star Co.> I I I f I Wjmm [ f^v~ H'v | Hecht & Company tribution That i * People of Washington h Us on This Eighth Bi t?and They Came, Thou is We Have Provided so I s Coats CIX>TIiS FOR THESE COATS AS FAST enormous demand.
