the continued aotivity of
spot business In Liverpool, futures
there were rather disappointing thia
1 morning, and the local cotton market
showed a reactionary tone. There was
moderate selling by the south and
scattered realising which checked the
1 advance, however, and a little later
1 October eased off from 13.22 to 18.11.
1 or a shade below last night's closing
figures. The spot business at Liverpool
amounted to 20,000 bales, of
which 11,000 were for exporT The
total included 8,000 bales of American.

NEW YORK, July 14.?The flfteenmllllon-dollar
state of Michigan
twenty-year 5% per cent bonds went
oft rapidly as soon as the subscription
books were open this morning'. They
were all sold by 11:50 o'clock, which
is better time than any new issue recently
has made. These bonds were
ottered at 103, on a 5.50 basis. and
being tax exempt, with a fairly long
maturity, naturally proved very attractive.
The general bond list was rather
more irregular, but with recent advances
well sustained and with a good
volume of business. The railway list
was inclined to mark time, but the
fact that there was a reedy dertiand
around the high prices reached in the
upward movement of the last two
weeks testified to the presence of a
lively investment power. Itock Island
refunding- 4s were up a fraction, and
so were Great Northern 7s.
Near Yesterday** Finals.
Atchison 4s, Southern Railway 5s.
Louisville 7s, Pennsylvania general 5s
and 6MjS, New York Central debentures,
Erie convertible Bs and other
equally representative issues were
dealt in within an eighth to a quarter
of a point of yesterday's final prices.
Burlington and Quincy collateral 7s
and Northern Pacific 6s both came
down somewhat from their high, and
Union Pacific 6s dropped off from
98% to 98% Chicago and Alton 3s
were an exception, breaking: another
two points to 42%.
Among the industrials the feature
was the heavy dealings in Cuba Cane
Sugar 7s. At the opening these bonds j
continued their rally, getting up to I
60%?nearly four points above their j
low. Later in the day they receded
below 60 again.
Liberty* Shade Higher.
Gfoodyear 8s were supported around
99%, and Kelly Springfield 8s around
94%. Mid vale Steel 5s were stronger
at 76% and 76%.
American Smelting 5s. Armour 4%s,
American Telephone and Telegraph
collateral 4s and Rubber 5s were all
steady at yesterday's prices. Wilson
& Co. convertibles rose % to 78.
Liberty bonds were a shade higher.
Belgian 8s got up a half point to 99%,
and United Kingdom 5%s of 1937 continued
strong.
