HUMANE ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES CONTEST Cash Prizes to Be Awarded for' Posters, Cartoons &nd Essays on "Kindness to Animals." Special- Dispatch to The Star. ALBANY, N. Y., March 4 Several prizes, ranging from $25 to $3 and open to school children throughout the country are offered by the Ameri can Humane Association in its annual humane poster and essay contest w-hich closes May 20 next. The nature of the work to be submitted and the rewards offered are: For the best humane posters made by art students, high school students, grammar school and prlmarv school pupils, a first prize of $25. second prize of $15 and third prize of $10 will be awarded. For the best cartoons on the sub- : Ject of "Be Kind to Animals," pub lished in newspapers before May 20. prizes of $10, $5 and $3, each, will bt j given. The cartoon prizes will be : awarded In two groups, one to persons nineteen and older, and the other to persons under that age. For the best poster for publicity purposes of a society for the preven tion of cruelty to animals, a special cash prize of $25. Prizes of $10 and $5 each will be given for the best posters showing the cruelty of catching animals in steel traps. For the best essays written by Boy Scouts on the subject of protection of j animals, $25, $15 and $10 will be given. | A prize of $25 to the Girl Scout who writes the best essay on protection of birds, and $25 to the Camp Fire girl who writes the best similar essay, will also be given.
