ACCUSE 63 IN MAIL FRAUDIDjCTMENI Mew York, Chicago and Al toona, Pa., Residents Named by Jury. STOCK DEAL IS INVOLVED Postal Inspector Claims Share holders in Glass Casket Com pany Were Defrauded. I»y th»' AssoriatPd PiVSB. PITTSBURGH. February B.—An Indictment charging: use of the mails in a scheme to defraud and con spiracy teas returned by a federal grand jury here yesterday against sixty-three men, residents of New | York. Chicago and Altoona. Pa. Post Office Inspector O. B. William son of the Philadelphia division, aided by inspectors from New York, con ducted the investigation. Inspector Williamson said last night that a 5200,000 stock deai was involved. The stock in question, he said, was that of the Glass Casket Corporation of Altoona. Sale of the stock, he said, was engineered by the Crager system of New York, in conjunction with Lester Armstrong & Co. of Chi cago and the L. Dorn Company of New York. The Dorn and Armstrong companies, he added, are operated by the Crager system. Gave Names of Stockholders. According to Inspector Williamson. Stephen Manning of Altoona, presi dent of the casket corporation, one of the defendants, turned over to the defendants the names of stockholders in his company. Then the Crager Company contracted with the casket company to purchase $200,000 worth of its stock, the inspector said. Later, he added, the united systems sent cards to Hie stockholders In quiring about the casket company stock. A few days after this, he said, the Armstrong company notified the stockholders that the stock was to be placed on the market. The Dorn company then telegraphed the stock holders. offering $35 a share, but Manning notified them not to sell, as an allotment was to be made to each. Inspector Williamson said. At this stage, he added, a Crager salesman called on each stockholder, told them brokers were after their stock and cautioned them not to dis pose of it. When the allotment was received, the inspector alleged, it was purchased from a Crager salesman ■by- the stockholders of the casket company. This salesman, he added, represented himself as an employe of the casket corporation. Lint of Defendants. In addition to Manning the defend ants are: William Agner. Benjamin Crager. Henry Crager.
