14 KEYSTONE VOTERS PICK SLATES TODAY Municipal Primaries Held in Philadelphia and 24 Other Cities. By the Associated Prettc. PHILADELPHIA. September IS.— Candidates for the November election were being chosen at a primary today by the voters of Pennsylvania. The primary was state-wide, so far as municipal and township officers were being selected. The only contest in which all voters of the stale will par ticipate is that for judge of the su perior court. Nominations for mayor and other city offices will be made in Philadel phia and twenty-four of the thirty ty-elght third-class cities. A three-cornered fight for the re publican nomination lor mayor was conducted in this city, the candidates being W. Freeland Kendrick, a past imperial potentate of the Shrlners in North America; Powell Evans, a man ufacturer. and Richard Wegleln, pres ident of city council. Kendrick, who is serving his third term,, as receiver of taxes, was sup ported by most of the leaders of the regular republican organization. The independent republican committee, which backed Evans, also had a full ticket in the field for city council and county offices. A. Raymond Raff, a contractor and builder, was unopposed for the demo cratic mayoralty nomination. PRIMARIES IN NEW YORK. By Ihr Associated Press. ALBANY. N. Y., September IS.— State primaries are being held today, in every section of the state county tickets will be named, and in a great majority of the cities municipal gov erning bodies will be nominated. Also, candidates for member of assembly will he selected and nominations will be made for three seats in Congress— in the eleventh district, in New York city, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Daniel J. Rtordan; in the six teenth district to fill the vacancy caused by the death of W. Bourke Cochran, and in the northern part of the slate, where nominations will be made for a representative to succeed the late Luther W. Mott. WOMAN JAILED 120 DAYS. ' Leola Brown, charged with violation of the national prohibition law. was convicted in the United States branch of Police Court yesterday by Judge Schuldt and given a jail sentence of 120 days. In the same court Tony Lomas was sentenced to serve 300 days in jail for carrying a deadly weapon.
