Preach at Christ
Episcopal Church
BISHOP JOHN P. TYLER
Rt. Rev. John P. Tyler. P. D.,
missionary bishop of the Episcopal
Church in North Dakota, will preach
at the 11 o'clock service tomorrow
morning at Christ Church. 31st and
O streets northwest.
Bishop Tyler is visiting Washing
• 1 ton in the interest of the work of
I the National Council. He recalls the
j day not more than ten years ago
■ when on his trips to the east he
[could afford to speak only in churches
i composed principally of rich men and
] women, because at that time It was
! necessary for a missionary bishop to
j make direct appeals in order to ob
j tain funds with which to carry on |
I his work. Now, under the direction i
|of the National Council, every' mem
i her of the church, no matter how
i poor, makes a contribution for mis
|si on ary work, which enables the
I National Council to supply the Im
, mediate need In all fields.
Visits'All ("kmrekes.
This permits the bishop, as he an
nounces with evident pleasure, to
visit churches in all parts of the
cities in which, he stops, irrespective
!of wealth or numbers. Wherever he
I goes he bears a message of gratitude
from the struggling Episcopal Church
|of the great northwest for the as
i sistance given it by all the church
I people everywhere.
Bishop Tyler will preach at the
Chapel of the Transfiguration. 14th
[and Gallatin streets northwest, at
; S p.m. tomorrow.
He also will he present at the
I meeting of the Young People’s Pel
’ lowship of Epiphany Parish tomor
! row afternoon. He is greatly inter-
I esled in the work of the young peo
: pie. w hich he encourages by his pres
. ence and by his voice whenever pos

TO DISCUSS CHURCH ART.
Mrs. Faber Stevenson to Lecture on
Oertel’s Work.
The Chnrch of the Incarnation,
■with its beautiful stained glass win
dows, made in Europe many years
ago, and its exquisite wood carvings
and large paintings, will furnish the
material for a talk on "Symbolism in
Christian Art” Tuesday afternoon at
2 o'clock by Mrs. Faber Stevenson.
The carvings and paintings are the
work of the late Johannes Oertel,
who spent his life in the endeavor
to preach sermons with his brush
and chisel. Hia best known work is
Hock of Ages. The many symbols
in the art of the church will be ex
plained.
