of Dr. Henry M. Dixon of Washington

of manslaughter, as a result of the
death at Mrs. Pa flow's Bethesda sani
tarium, on October 21, of Mary K.
Devoe. young Washington nurse,
caused, it is alleged, by a criminal
operation. Both arc under bonds in
the amount $7,000 each.
Cpton Perrell. justice of the peace
at Bethesda. against whom four in
dictments are pending, two charging
misconduct in office and two obtain
ing money under false pretenses, and
all the outgrowth of his alleged fail
ure to forward to the Police Court
at Rockville collaterals accepted by
him in automobile cases, will he
placed on trial on December 1. Judge
Peter decided yesterday afternoon,

Berwyn youth, indicted on a charge

der of Marlboro and Robert Peter, jr.,
of Rockville will represent Parkhurst.

Salvaging of S-51

A new light for use in deep sea
diving work, more powerful than
any used heretofore, has been de
veloped by the Navy for salvaging
operations in connection with the
raising of the submarine S-51,
which was sunk In collision off
Block Island several weeks ago.
Rear Admiral Plunkett, in com
mand of the Third Naval District,
with headquarters In New York,
gave Secretary Wilbur a personal
report on the light and the prog
ress of the salvaging operations.
The light throws a powerful glow
about the wreck, which lies more
than RiO fathoms deep, and largely
as a result of this, the admiral re
lated. the salvaging operations
have progressed rapidly, and It will
he possible to raise the submarine
in a few days.

HEADS CITIZENS’ BODY
Increase in Mail Servioe to Be
Sought by Connecticut Avenue
Association.
William S. Quinter was re-elected
president of the. Connecticut Avenue
Citizens' Association at a meeting in
All Souls’ Church, Connecticut and
Cathedral avenues, last night.
Other officers chosen were: First
vice president, Harry C. Grove: second
vice president, Arthur E. Dowell; sec
retary, Sidney Roche, and treasurer.
Elizabeth R. Groves. Mr. Quinter and
Mr. Roche were elected as delegates to
the Federation of Citizens’ Associa
tions.
The city postmaster will be asked to
make a survey of the community with
a view to increasing the mail service.
It was pointed out that %he large in
crease in population in this area has
rendered the present delivery and col
lection service Inadequate to supply
the needs.
Approval was voiced at the action
of the Commissioners in changing sub
station T, in Tenleytown, to a full po
lice precinct, which change, it was an
nounced. would become effective De
cember 1. This association, together
with others in the neighborhood, has
been active in agitating this change
for a number of years. President
Quinter presided.
One tenth of Alaska’s white popula
tion is in Government employ.

Service Where Boat Sank.

by the British navy today to the
memory of the 68 officers and men
who perished in the monitor-submarine
M l a. week ago.
A fleet of warships assembled at
dawn at the spot off the Devonshire
coast where the M-l made her fatal
dive. The burial service for those who
died at sea was read aitoard the sub
marine parent ship Maidstone, after
which wreaths were thrown upon the
water.
