mum space for standing supports. If
you wish to save expense you can
have the springs placed on wooden
supports such as strong boxes at each
end. When this arrangement is fol
lowed, the springs must have a
valance to the mattress which hides
the boxes.
Army Cots Easily Set Up.
The next best thing to the- hammock
springs arranged in either of the
ways described is an army cot. This
can be folded up during the daytime
and put in some closet or out of the
way place. It may not be necessary
to fold the cot up into its smallest

compass, for it is something: of a
circumstance to put it up and take
it down every time it is used. If it
can be closed merely like a camp stool
there is almost no work to getting it
ready for the bed at night or for stor
ing during the day. It is advisable to
have a thick quilt to lay over the
canvas to make it more "downy” and
soft, if you are particular about hav
ing a comfortable bed.
Bench for Porch.
If the porch is not used for sleep
ing purposes, a narrow bench like
those sometimes used in school rooms
or in halls is well adapted to the little
porch. It is so narrow that it takes
up the smallest width possible. Its
chief disadvantages are that it is
narrow for luxurious comfort when
lying down on it, and it has not the
soft springiness of any of the cotk or
spring arrangements mentioned. It
can be made somewhat softer by put
ting on it a mattress made of excelsior

Once again the spot at Yorktown
whereon was fought the last skir
mish of the Revolutionary War will
be known as "The Hook,” Its name
for many years, if the movement
sponsored by the Association for the
Preservation of Virginia Antiquities
is ssuccessful. The asociation hopes
to discard the name "Hayes’ Store,”
which it has had for several years.
