10 FEDERAL COUNCIL BODY MEETS SOON Executive Group to Hold First Session in Northwest in December. N For the first time In Its history the executive committee of the Federal Council of Churches will meet in the Northwest, according to an announce ment made by Rev. Samuel McCrea Cavort, general secretary. The executive committee will meet at Minneapolis on December 8, 9 and 10. It will be the guest of the Min neapolis Council of Churches. The day session of the meeting, it is explained by Mr. Cavert, will center entirely around the general theme Making Church Co-operation Real and Vital in the Community.” Evan gelism, religious education, interna tional relations, the church and in dustry, race relations and prohibi tion will all be considered as matters in which the churches can achieve greater results through co-operative efforts. At the day sessions there will be no set addresses, the time being de voted to discussion of the agenda. Britisher to Speak. Miss Lucy Gardner, who was one of the organizers of the British Council on Christian Policies, Economics and citizenship, popularly known as Copic, Will be one of the speakers. She is honorary secretary of the membership section of the Universal Christian Con ference on Life and Work and is the only woman member of the British committee of the world conference on faith and order. She is fulfilling many speaking engagements in the United | States under the auspices of the com- i mittee on interchange of speakers and i preachers, representing the Church ! Peace Union, the World Alliance for ! International Friendship and the Fed j eral Council of Churches. Bishop John M. Moore of Dallas. Tex., is chairman of the executive J committee. Gov. Theodore Christian- j son of Minnesota will speak at the j dinner at the opening of the sessions under the auspices of the Minneapolis Council of Churches. At a “fellowship dinner” under the auspices of the Minneapolis Council of Churches the significance of the national and local co-operative move ments will be interpreted. The speak ers will be Gov. Christianson, former Gov. Charles E. Milliken of Maine and formerly president of the Northern Baptist Convention; Bishop Moore of ihe Methodist Episcopal Church South of Dallas, Tex.; Rev. John A. Marquis, general secretary of the Board of For eign Missions of the Presbyterian Church and chairman of the admin istrative committee of the Federal Council of Churches, and Mrs. John Ferguson, New York, president of the Council of Women for Home Missions. Will Consider Labor. Miss Gardner will speak on “The Church for the Present Hour” at the j second evening meeting. Rev. Dr. S. ! Parkes Cadman, president of the Fed- j eral Council of Churches, will be the j other speaker. At the first session. December S, , the church leaders will discuss “What j Ts the Present Situation?" They will j take up the co-operative work done by the churches in the cities and States through councils of churches, through State mission rounoils and similar or ganizations. These leaders are the officially designated representatives of 28 great communions, having a joint membership of more than 22,000,000 adult members. Each year these lead ers come together in executive com mittee to plan the work of the Fed- j eral Council of Churches during the j ooming year. In 1905 the churches j organized the Federal Council to do J such co-operative work as they might | direct from time to time. An Important discussion will he on j "What service can the Federal coun cil render directly or through local councils and local churches that desire to develop a co-operative program for bringing Christian members to bear more effectively on Industry and for securing better contracts for the labor movements?” One of the queries of this discussion is “What light does the experience in Detroit during the American Federation of Labor conven tion ehed on the question?” SECOND ADVENT, TOPIC. National Baptist Memorial Pastor j Will Be Heard. At the National Baptist Memorial tomorrow morning. The clergy have been invited by Bishop James E. Freeman to as semble in the Bethlehem Chapel to consider with Bishop Darst the ap proaching bishops’ crusade. Holy communion will be celebrated at 10 a.m., after which there will be an all-day conference. Bishop Rhine lander and Very Rev. F. S. M. Ben | nett, dean of Chester, will also be 11 present. This conference will usher | 1 in the preparatory period for the | \ bishops’ crusade, during which I' period evangelism' will be the theme »j of sermons and addresses in all the I churches of the diocese.
