Funeral services for Francis Stow jait Davidge, who died last Friday, were conducted at his late residence, 1610 Park avenue. Baltimore, today, at 11 o’clock. Rev. Dr. Benjamin B. Lov ett, rector of the Memorial Episcopal THE EVENING- ST AH, WASHINGTON, T). C., MONDAY, OCTOBER 31. 1027. Church, officiated. Interment was in Oreenmount Cemeteery. Honorary pallbearers were: C. Phil lips Hill, William Clagett and Howe T >tten of this city; Robert A. Fisher, Edward. Duffy and George Weems Wil liams of Baltimore. Mr. Davidge was the son of the late Walter Dorsey Davidge, distinguished lawyer, and Airs Anna Washington Davidge, and was a great-grandson of Dr. John Beale Davidge, founder of the University of Maryland, and a descendant, on his mother’s side, of Richard Bland Lee. lie is survived by his widow. M ,- s. Mabel Wagner Davidge of Baltimore; three sisters, Miss Maud L. Davidge, Miss Anna W. Davidge and Miss Edith H. Davidge, and three brothers. Walter D., William F. and John D. Davidge, all of this city. MRS. LANDVOIGT DIES AT GRANDSON’S HOME Widow of Memphis Newspaper Man Was Former Resident of District. Mrs. Laura F. Landvoigt, mother of William H. Landvoigt of the dramatic department of The Star, died Friday at the home of her grandson. Charles S. Gawler. in Columbia. S. C. Death was caused by heart trouble. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Landvoigt was the widow of John A. Landvoigt, a newspaper man of Memphis, Tenn., before the Civil War and who was later connected 1 with the Government Printing Office here. He was one of the first presi dents of the Bookbinders' Society of Washington. Mrs. Landvoigt had lived here nearly all her life, going to Columbia about a year and a half ago. Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the John R. Wright Co to morrow afternoon at 3 o’clock. Inter ment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Rev. Dr. John C. Palmer, grand chaplain of Masons, will officiate at the services. Besides her son, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs Dora A. Emmcrt, and several grandchildren. In order that the King of Spain could enjoy greyhound racing under electric light a special race was post ' poned until 10 o’clock recently. ; TRIBUTE TO MEMORY I OF HUGH B. ROWLAND D. C. Supreme Court in General Term Hear Fervent Eulogy of Deceased Attorney. The justices of the District Supreme Court held a session in general term this morning to do honor to the late Hugh B. Ilowland. a member of the grievance committee, who died July 2. Attorney Roger J. Whiteford, chairman of the committee, delivered the eulogy. Mr. Whiteford spoke of the high character anti integrity of Mr. Rowland and pointed out that during the seven years while Row land was a member of the grievance ! committee he was very careful not to | report against a lawyer unless the ! facts dearly established that he | should be disbarred, i Mr. Whiteford said Mr. Rowland was { 53 years old and had “reached the age j when manhood’s morn had just passed its noon.” He said the lawyer had J been born In Baltimore of Southern parentage, his grandfather having served on the staff of (len. Lee; was educated in public schools there, and came to Washington as a page in the press gallery of Congress, .and later became a clerk in the War Depart ment. Here while working by day, lie studied law by night and later entered the offices of the law firm where be re mained to become a member of the firm following his admission to the ba r. Before the United States entered tin war Mr. Rowland had been Britisl vice consul and adviser to the British embassy, Mr. Whiteford said, which j position he relinquished to become at i tached to the War Department and tt I serve with the adjutant general’: office in France, whence he was dis charged with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He then resumed the law practice which he continued until hi: dcat h. Mr. Whiteford paid a high tributt to the legal attainments of the he ceased and pointed out that he had no specialized in any branch of the law but was known as a general practi tinner to whom persons might have recourse to learn all branches of tin law. Election of a successor to Chapin Brown, general counsel of the Wash ington Chamber of Commerce, who died recently, will be held at the monthly meeting of the board of di rectors of the organization tomorrow evening at the offices of the chamber in the Homer Building. The audit committee, William M. Dove, chairman, will meet in the of fices of the chamber tomorrow noon and the membership committee. C. Melvin Sharpe, chairman, will hold a luncheon meeting tomorrow' at the Occidental Hotel. The committee studying the question of a new' loca tion for the chamber headquarters, of which Ivan C. Weld is chairman, will meet at the chamber headquarters at 7:30 o’clock tomorrow. BISHOP M’DOWELL SPEAKS Special Dispatch to The Star. FREDERICK, Md„ October 31. Bishop William F. McDowell of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Wash ington, was the principal speaker at services held at the Maryland Odd Fellows Home here yesterday. Several thousand members of the order from Maryland and the District of Columbia made heir annual pil grimage to the home.
