18 DISABLED VETERAN WORK PLAN SOUGHT Committee to Make Survey of Methods Used in Allied Countries. Survey of the methods used by the tilled countries In helping their World War disabled to get employment will be made by President Coolidge’s special veterans’ preference committee, of which Representative Hamilton Fish of New Ycik is chairman In their efforts to find ways and means of opening the doors of employ ment in the Federal service wider to disabled veterans especially, the com mittee has decided to get through of ficial channels all the information it can about what has been done by those na tions which fought side by side as allies in the war. Gen. Pershing testified Fridav that to his knowledge France, for instance, was doing more for her dis abled than the United States, in the matter of veterans’ preference. While the committee had not decided definitely yesterday how it may go about the matter of obtaining this informa tion. it was variously suggested that the military attaches of the War Depart ment or the foreign representatives of the Veterans’ Bureau would be able to transmit such matter in short order. The President's committee is planning to submit a report by December 1 Hear ings will resume next Wednesday. APARTMENT ROBBERIES BRING 360-DAY PENALTY Former Janitor Sentenced After Confessing Thefts at Two Houses. Admitting he had taken articles from lockers in the Cecil Apartment and the Wardman Park Hotel, where he was employed as a janitor. Luke Boone, col ored. was sentenced yesterday to serve 360 days in jail, with the option of pay ing S2OO in fines or serving an addi tional 180 days for six cases of larceny. He was also held for the action of the grand jury on a charge of grand lar ceny. Boone was employed at the Ward man Park Hotel for 18 days, during which time he is alleged to have taken numerous pieces of silverware. He then was employed as janitor at the Cecil Apartment for one month. When he moved away, it is alleged, he took numerous pieces of tableware and clothing he had obtained from the lockers of residents cf the apartment. In addition he is charged with having placed a cot, which was in the hall of tiie apartment, on the moving van to gether with an entire barrel of china and glassware valued at SSO. Practically all the articles taken have been recovered. They include dishes, sugar bowls, soup tureens, umbrellas and bathing suits. PRAISES R. L. WILLIAMS. Taliaferro Wishes Him Success in New Revenue Post. Commissioner Sidney F. Taliaferro •ent a letter of appreciation yesterday to Robert L. Williams, who resigned as assistant corporation counsel to join the legal staff of the Internal Revenue Bureau. ‘ After more than 16 years as an as sistant to the corporation counsel of the pistrict of Columbia.” said Mr. Taliaferro, “you have resigned to ac cept another position which holds prospects of witter usefulness. Let me express the appreciation of the District for the splendid and efficient work which you have accomplished. “I desire to assure you that you have the very best wishes of the Commis sioners, as well as my personal regards end best wishes, for your future." WINS SCHOOL AWARD. Robert T. Murray. 3d. has been awarded the junior scholarship prise of a book. “The Life of Dean Briggs.” for attaining the highest scholarship in the • junior class at Armstrong Technical j High School. The book is offered by the Harvard Club of Washington to ranking juniors at each of the high schools. Murray is a lieutenant in the cadet corps, and took highest scholastic hon ors for the whole high school.
