I " At a meting of the Presbytery of Washington City last Monday evening In the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, the request of Dr. Thomas C. Clark to be relieved of the active pastorate of the Takoma Park Presby terian Church was granted to become effective when his successor Is installed. Dr. Clark, pastor of the Takoma Park Church for the last 23 years, came from Grand Island, Nebr. His activity has resulted not only in growth of the congregation during that period, but the new church at the corner of Maple and Tulip avenues stands as a monu ment of his long service to the com munity. . . At the meeting of the presbytery a call was presented for Rev. R. Paul Schearrer of Endlcott, N. Y., and he u will be installed as pastor of the Ta r,koma Park Church February 13, under ! direction of the Presbytery of Wash ington City. The sermon on that oc casion will be preached by Dr. J. R. Sizoo. pastor of the New York Avenue Presbvterian Church, and the charges delivered by Dr. W. L. Darby and Rev. J. H. Hollister. The congregation was represented at Monday's meeting by Mrs. C. R. Normandy. George Francis Williams and H. I. Houston. On the date of the installation of Rev. R. Paul Schearrer, Dr. Clark becomes pastor emeritus. A testimonial meeting to Dr. Clark will be held February 1 at 8 o'clock in the Takoma Park Church, to be partici pated in by the presbytery, the com munity and his church. At 7:30 o’clock, February 7. Dr. Clark will hold a spe cial pre-communion service with his closing communion service Sunday morning at 11 o'clock on February 10. A meeting of the Presbytery of Wash ington City will be held February 11 at 10 o'clock at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, when the new pastor will be enrolled, the call pre sented and arrangements for his in stallation completed. A reception will " be held in honor of Rev. and Mrs. R. Paul Schearrer, February 15, at 8 o’clock, at the church. Dr. Clark has for the last 10 years been stated clerk of the Presbytery of Washington, which position he will continue to occupy. CLINTON HOWARD TO GIVE ADDRESS AT CHURCH HERE Baptist Program Built on Plea for Observance and Enforcement of Law. Clinton N. Howard, humorist, author and lecturer, will deliver a sermon-ad dress on “The Twin Rocks of Church and State” at Fifth Baptist Church to morrow night. This service is in the interest of law observance and law enforcement. At the morning service. Dr. John E. Briggs will preach on "Hazarding Our Lives” Representative B. G. Lowrey will teach the Baraca Bible class, and Representative W. M. Whittington, the Darlington Berea Bible Class. Both of them are from Mississippi. The Darlington-Berea Bible Class will have its annual supper Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. ' COLTON WILL SPEAK. TJtah. Representative Will Tell of Mormonism. Representative Don B. Colton of Utah will talk on the subject of the Mormon religion at a dinner Wednesday eve ning under the auspices of the men's Bible class of the Calvary Methodist Church, Columbia road near Fifteenth street. This is one of a series of dinner con ferences which have been arranged by the social committee of the class, of which Dr. A. A. Chenay is chairman, the general topic of the conferences be ing "The Other Man’s Religion.” The class meets at 9:40 o’clock every Sunday morning, when the lesson dis cussion is under the direction of Dr. A. C. Christie. GET-TOGETHER MEETING. Bible Class’ New Officers Are In stalled. The annual get-together meeting of the Theron Outwater Bible Class was held at Kendall Baptist Church Wed nesday evening. L. E. McGill installed the following officers: W. E. Carter, president; Frank Carroll, vice president: W. E. Neff, sec retary; Mr. Kid well, treasurer, and M. C. Lipscomb, teacher. Other numbers on the program were the Bethany Quartet, vocal selection by Mr. Cook, remarks by the retiring president, Mr. Conklyn, and by the teacher. Repre sentative B. G. OFFICERS ELECTED BY CHURCH GROUP Bishop McDowell Again Heads Committee of Federal Council. List of Members Announced. At the meeting of the Washington committee of the Federal Council of Churches Thursday in its offices in the Woodward Building, officers were elected. Bishop William F. McDowell was again chosen as the chairman. He has served in this position for 12 years. Norton M. Little was elected vice chair man and Dr. W. L. Darby was re-elected sis secretary.
