Bs/th» Assoc ia t c’J “9r?ss HONOLULU. 18.—Three of the four yachts which, began a race July 4 frddi San Pedro rested at anchor in Honolulu Harbor today while the race committee awaited word of the fourth, the Mollilou. With its handicap cf 73 hours 16 minutes and 30 seconds, the Mollilou still had a chance of taking first place lh elapsed time. Crossing the finish line of Diamond Head at 11:10:12 am. (Honolulu time> yesterday, the 106-foot yawl contender stood an excellent chance of capturing first place in elapsed time, but her skipper and owner, Walter Horne, re fused to accept an additional six hours’ handicap offered by the race committee. With its regular handicap of 12 hours 6 minutes and 6 seconds, the contender ryas only 41 minutes behind the 136- foot schooner Enchantress in elapsed time. The Enchantress crossed the fin ish at 10:22:52 p.m. Wednesday. The cutter Talayba, handicap seven hours 34 minutes and 38 seconds, was third to finish, at 3:05:38 p.m. yester day. Although the yachts encountered ex cellent weather generally, there were several thrillmg moments. Navigator William Tompkins of the Talayha fell overboard July 9 while the cutter was making 8 knots. He was rescued by C. G. Johnson. The contender narrowly averted dis aster Sunday when a boom broke away and pulled the yacht far over on ite side. The crew managed to pull the boom out of the water, however, and the boat was righted. The crew of the Enchantress went swimming in the middle of the Pacific July 13 when the schooner was be calmed.
