Reorganization of the Asheville city gov ernment, in financial straits since the closing of the Central Bank & Trust Co. November 20, was completed last night. Mayor Gallatin Roberts resigned yes terday and Harry Plummer, named THE EVENING STAR. WABTTTNGTON, D. C., FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1930. Wednesday as commissioner of public safety, was chosen to succeed him. Plummer took the oath of office shortly after Roberts tendered his resignation at a conference with leading business men who have been seeking to rehabili tate the city’s finances. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, December 12.—A mad dened mob, which included parents of the victims, threatened to lynch an autoist whose machine plowed into a group of school children, killing two and Injuring five, in suburban BeUwood last night. Police rescued the car driver, P. A. Beukema of Chicago, as he was lifting the bodies into his car, and lodged him in the Jail at Maywood for his protec tion. Beukema said he had not seen the children, who were returning from a band rehearsal. Jerry Felkner, 10, and Prank Vices, 13, were killed. Hull, England, has decided to con duct all funerals from the work house by direct labor, and will have its own hearse, coach and top-hatted pall bearers. December 12. —Miss Ish bel MacDonald, daughter of the prime minister, addressing a women’s dinner here last night, was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a mouse fleeing from a cat. Some of the women laughed, but many hastily wrapped their long skirts around their knees and pulled their feet up under them on their chair seats.
