Canedy, author, lecturer and a prominent figure in Protestant Episcopal Church affairs of the Nation for many years, died here yesterday at the home of a son, C. Malcolm Canedy. Stricken with a heart attack during the night, Maurice Cosgriff, 79, retired Frederick County farmer, died before medical assistance could be summoned last night. WORLD WAR VETERAN DEAD AT CLARENDON James F. Wood Expires Suddenly on Return Home From Work. Special Dispatch to The Star. CLARENDON, Va., December 12. James F. Wood, 47 years of age, and a well known resident of Radinor Heights, died suddenly at his home yesterday morning. Returning to his home from his work as route agent of the Wash ington Post, he died before medical aid could b? summoned. Mr. Wood, more familiarly known to his friends as “Pop" was a veteran of the World War. having enlisted in the 7th Field Artillery at the outbreak of the war and taking part In the battles of the Aisne, Marne. St. Mihlel, the Meuse and the Argonne. Funeral sendees will be held in the ■ chapel at Fort Myer tomorrow morning | and burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Q’HERN DIES IN BROOM Was Head of All Catholic War Chaplains and Edited Magazine. Rev Louis J. O'Hern, rector of the Apoetonc Mission House at the Catholic University and editor of the Missionary Magazine, who was in charge of all Catholic Army and Navy chaplains dur ing the World War, died this morning at 3:30 o’clock in the Mission House, Brookland. He had been ill for two years with heart trouble. A solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in New York with funeral service in the, Church of the Paulist Fathers, 415 West Fifty-Ninth street. Leaves Three Brothers. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters: Right Rev. John Francis O’Hern, Bishop of Rochester, N. Y.; Rev. Thomas J. O’Hern, pastor of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Buffalo, N. Y.; Col. P. O’Hem, U. S. A., who was chief ordnance officer with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during the World War and who is now com mandant at the Presidio, San Francisco, and the Misses Helm and Gertrude O’Hem, both of Rochester, N. Y. In his last hours. Father OH’em re ceived a cablegram from Rome bring ing him the papal blessing. During the World War he was execu tive secretary pf the Catholic Army and Navy Chaplains Bureau and represented the Catholic hierarchy of America in the selection and appointment of United States Army and Navy chaplains. Started Church in Rome. He was one of the three who started the American Church in Rome, known as the Church of Santa Susanna, un der charge of the Paulist Fathers. Father O’Hem was bom at Olean, N. Y. t June 12, 1878. He received the degree of bachelor of sacred theology at the Catholic University in 1903, and in December of that year was ordained a priest. Representative Kendall of Kentucky, who spends his leisure time in the Capital studying law at National Uni versity, was initiated into active mem bership in Mu Chapter of Sigma Delta Kappa Fraternity in a ceremonial at the Carlton Hotel last night. Mr. Kendall, a member of the junior class at the Law School, was one of eight National students to be initiated in the chapter. The others were Ugo J. A. Carusi, Frederick W. Denniston, Julius H. Rice, Charles K. Murr, Prentiss D. Sale, jr.; John C. Grille and R. R. Browning. The initiation team was composed of Lieut. W. E. McCain, U. S. A., and Merritt L. Smith. George P. Grove, Washington realtor, is chancellor of the chapter and John M. Lynham is Its secretary. W. C. T. ROGERS DEAD Special Dispatch to The Star. LEESBURG, Va., December 12. W. C. T. Rogers, 51 years old, promi nent resident of Leesburg, died yester day at his home here after an illness of several months. Mr. Rogers was a native of this county, the son of the late Alexander H. Rogers and Julia Claggett Rogers. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Anna Ferguson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one daughter. Miss Nancy Rogers, who is attending school in Georgia; a son, W. C. T., Jr., at school in Baltimore: one sister, Mrs. R. B. Wildman of Leesburg, and a brother, Julian H. Rogers of Baltimore. Richard Syl vester, former chief of the metropoli tan police here and later chief of police for the Du Pont Powder Co, who died in the Hotel du Pont, Wilmington, Del., yesterday, will be held in this city In Rock Creek Cemetery tomorrow after noon at 2:30 o'clock. Friends here be lieved the church funeral services would be held In Wilmington today. MaJ. Bylvester Is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura V. Sylvester; two sons, John M. and H. H. Sylvester; a daughter, Mrs. Laura Woods, and a number of grandchildren. MaJ. Sylvester, who was 73 years old, had been In failing health for some time, and was stricken 111 last Satur day, which resulted In his death yes terday. He retired as chief for the Du Pont Powder Co. several weeks ago. Becoming connected with the Police Department here In 1883, when he was named chief clerk, he remained In the latter position until July, 1898, when he was named chief of the department. He remained In office until 1915, and short ly afterward was named chief for the Du Pont Co. He was widely known for his achieve ments In co-ordinating police activities in the various cities and development of science in running down criminals. ROME PAPER ASSAILS SON OF MRS. DE BOSIS By the Associated Press. ROME, December 12.—Popolo di Roma today editorially denounced Lauro*de Bosls, secretary of the Italo- American Society of New York, as an antl-Fascist. De Bosls is the son of Mrs. Lillian de Bosls, nee Vernon, once an Ameri can citizen of 6t. Louis, who was ar rested a fortnight ago, charged with antl-Fascism. The newspaper refers to an allegedly antl-Fascist Interview De Bosls granted at Geneva recently and calls him harsh names because he allegedly re cently .wrote a letter saying that he was loyal to Fascism.
