VILLA KILLER ASKS MEXICO FOR PLACE Barraza Says His tfonor Pre vented Him From Taking Movie Offers in U. S. By th« Associated press. MEXICO CIT/V, April 7.—Jesus Salas Barraza, the sJayer of Pancho Villa is sorry—not that he killed Villa, but that he joined the Escobar Revolution of 1929. If the present government will for give him, he has written Carlos Riva Palaci<v secretary of interior, and allow him *#> remain in peace in Mexico, he will,“prove that he is a "peaceful, law abjfiing citizen.” He acknowledges he lfld the gang which ambushed Villa in 1923. Life in the United States would not have been so bad. Salas wrote, but his honor, which he called the only legacy he inherited from his parents, inter fered. He said that he had been unable to bring himself to accept offers of stage and motion picture parts built upon the Villa episode which would have made him financially independent, preferring poverty for himself, his wife and his seven children to commercializing the episode. Referring to Villa by his full name, j Dorotea Arango Francisco <Pancho) j Villa, Salas declared that he had slain : him for a ‘'noble purpose” and had rid Mexico of a “morose element” and “national shame” by the assassination. Salas came here a few days ago to clear himself of chargej of smuggling arms. When arrested at Moctezuma. Chihuahua, he had four rifles, two of which he was taking to friends a’ Santa Barbara, he said, and two of which he carried to defend himself against followers of Villa, who swore of a blood oath to be revenged upon him. CITIZENS RAP REPAIRS MADE TO CINDER PATHS Highlands Body Protests Dumping of Ashes and Names Dr. Payne as Federation Delegate. Indignation regarding repairs made to cinder paths was expressed by the Washington Highlands Citizens' As sociation at a meeting held last night. . Members complained that walks are now avoided by pedestrians, who are using the streets instead. It was stated that the repairs, made by dumping of ashes along the pathways, have made walking on them practically impossible. D. H. Cole introduced the resolution. Circular letters in reference to “Clean-up week” were ordered sent to all residents of the community, and a card party, to be given the first week In May, was announced. Miss Bessie Warren, president, presided at the meeting, held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A F. Davidson, 15 Atlantic street southeast. D. H. Cole tendered his resignation as delegate to the Federation of Citizens’ Associations, because of ill health, and Dr. J. B. Payne was elected to succeed ; him. Hewlett Johnson, dean of Manchester, engineer, athlete and moun tain climber. ’ Dick" Sheppard, who made his repu tation as a radio preacher when he was rectcr of St. Martin's in th 3 Fields, London, resigned because of poor heal.h. Dr. Johnson was a rowing blue when he was at Oxford, and an enthusiastic follower of almost every form of sport. He became an engineer, but he was always interested in social service, and when he was 32 he was ordained a priest. He has expressed original opinions on a variety of subjects. He has long advocated day coaches which are convertible into sleepers, and has even slept in luggagp racks to protest against the unconvertible kind.
