Conditions of under-nourishment and near-starvation existing among 200,000 children in that country can be al leviated only through tne continued support of the emergency relief units, it wad stated. At present the funds necessary for operating feeding sta tions are inadequate, the committee asserts, requiring immediate replenish ment if the charitable work 1s to be continued. There are no administrative costs deducted from the contributions made ; to this esuse. it was pointed out, as ' the Insular Department of Education absorbs this overhead. JUDGE ASSUMES ART CRITIC ROLE Asked to Decide Whether Painting Is Genuine Velas quez or Copy. By th# Associated Pres». NEW YORK, October 24.—Supreme Court Justice Bernard L. Sheintag was called upon yesterday to assume the role of art connoisseur and decide whether or not a painting is a genuine Velasquez or just a copy of the medieval master’s work. His decision was requested in connec tion with a suit against Mme. Francisca Reyes Spanish antique dealer, for payment of a $15,000 note given to a Spanish prie. t in 1935 for the painting In question. 11 In the lowef court Mme. Reyes main tained the agreed to buy the work on condition Its authenticity be proven. She mid while the painting was in her shop awaiting investigation two men. who described themselves as "Count de Gama and Mr. Bonel," looked at it. proclaimed it a masterpiece and offered her $250,000. They were to return the next day. Mme. Reyes said she immediately went to the priest. Father Amador Lopez Rengel. gave him a $5,000 deposit and the note for $15,000. But the buyers never came back, Mme. Reyes declared. Following the death of another Span ish priest, Father Oarcia, the $15,000 note was found among his papers and \ suit vu begun by his estate for collec tion with interest. - —■ • London's Ale Weakens.
