The Washington Cathedral has dis tributed more than a million and a quarter Christmas cards, which empha size the sacred significance of the great fest'val of the Christian Church, it was announced by officials of the Ca thedral yesterday. The cards a re in sets of 12, reproduc ing masterpleoq* of art commemorating the Nativity. The idea of sending the cards was initiated six years ago by Right Rev. James E. A large body of rose growers of Greater Washington will meet next Fri day evening at the Young Women’s Christian Association Building to effect final organization of the Potomac Rose Society. The first of five free public lectures on the Indian tribes of North America, to be given under the auspices of the Anthropological Society of Washington at the United States National Museum, will be delivered Tuesday night by Dr Edward Sapir of Yale University. Dr. Sapir, who is one of the leading authorities on Indian languages, will speak on the Indians of the Northwest Coast, where was developed one of the highest centers of aboriginal American culture. He will describe the tribes in habiting the shores of British Columbia, Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Is lands and Southern Alaska. The purpose of the Anthropological j Society is to present in popular form as i complete a survey as possible of the ! original Americans," w'ith their con- ! tributions to present-day American j civilization. The next two lectures in the series will be delivered on the evenings of January 5 and January 19 by Dr. Rob- j ert L. Lowie, chairman of the division j of anthropological and psychology of j the National Research Council. The first lecture by Dr. Lowie will be on i th? Indians of the Great Basin, com prising the tribes of Utah, Navada, i Eastern Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming. 1 The second will be on the Indian tribes of the Great Plains area. The last two lectures will be by Dr Alfred L. Kroeber, professor of an thropology at the University of Cali fornia, who will spealc on the cultures of the Indians of Western North Amer ica and on the Pueblo Indians. These lectures will be on February 11 and February 25, respectively. Actress Loses $1,750 Suit. LOS ANGELES, December 12 UP).— May McAvoy, screen actress, yesterday lost a suit to collect $1,750 for salary claimed due from the Madison Produc tions, Inc. The suit, filed in September, 1924, was dismissed by Superior Judge Lester W. Roth on the ground the actress had failed to prosecute it within the five-year limit allowed by law.
