NAVY SUPPLY BILL I
AWAITS SIGNATURE
Training Cruise for Reserves1
Struck Out as Measure
Goes to Hoover.
The naval appropriation bill, carry- [
lng $317,583,591, was before President
Hoover for signature today.
Congress completed action on the
measure yesterday, the Senate program
for $650,000 for Summer training
erulses for Reserves oeing struck out
by the House and the Senate later
edcpting this course.
The bill limits the average number
of chief petty officers under acting ap
pointment to 5.910 and 850, respec
tively.
Non-flying officers entitled to flying
pay are limited to eight above the grade
of lieutenant commander.
Major Items in the bill are:
Modernizing New Mexico, Mississippi
end Idaho, $30,000,000.
Construction and machinery, $15,- j
063.000.
Armor, armament and ammunition, !
$3,000,000.
Public works,' Bureau of Docks anil
Yards. $2,490,000.
Limits allowance for transportation
Of dependents to actual and necessary
expenses and to total of $450,000.
Total for pay, subsistence and trans
portation of naval personnel $149,912,
000
No part of the money is to be avail
able for transporting privately-owned
automobiles except to return those pre
viously shipped or in transit from United
States at public expense.
Contains provision that no enlisted
man of the Marine Corps shnll be as
signed to the Fleet Marine Corps Re
serve after July 1.
No part of the money Is to be used to
pay the cost of sending aijditional Ma
rines to Nicaragua to supervise elec
tions.
