Bar Head Terms It Center for Intensified War on Crime. (Continued From First Page.) Building. In 1855 the office was transferred to a brick building at the southeast comer of Fifteenth and F streets, where it stayed until 1861, when it went back to the Treasury Building. The office of Attorney General be came offlcfilly the Department of Jus tice by act of Congress June 22, 1870. The next year leased quarters in the old Freedmen's Bank Building, on Pennsylvania avenue, were taken. This building was purchased by the Gov ernment in 1882, but in 1899 the structure was abandoned as unsafe and the department moved to the Baltic Hotel, K street between Ver mont avenue and Fifteenth street. The next move was to the rented office building at Vermont avenue and K street, from which the department has just moved. The speakers were introduced by Solicitor General J. Crawford Biggs, .who presided. Among those in the audience were justices of the United States Supreme Court and of the va rious local courts, members of the diplomatic corps, legal officers of other Federal departments, representatives of the American, District, Federal, Women's and Washington Bar Asso ciations and a number of Senators and Representatives. Several former Attorneys General also were guests at Arrangements were in charge of Ugo Carusi, assistant to Cummings, and a committee of the District Bar Association headed by J. Spalding Flannery. The dedication originally was scheduled for last Spring, but was de layed first by a carpenters’ strike and then by inclement weather. Newspaper People Feted. In celebration of the dedication, At torney General and Mrs. Cummings entertained their newspaper friends yesterday afternoon at their Tilden street residence. Informality was the keynote of the reception, which was attended largely by men and women who “cover” the weekly press con ferences of the Attorney General. The colorful mosaic ceilings of the entrances to the courtyard of the new building were inspected yesterday aft ernoon by architects and engineers in vited by the District of Columbia Chapter, American Institute of Archi tects. The mosaics, first of their kind made from domestic materials, and the largest ever made from pre-cast concrete, were produced in the Wash ington studios of John J. Earley, who was on hand to explain their manu facture. Births Reported. Henry and Mary Buchanan, twin girls. Peter and Helen Kelly, boy. Heath and Frances Twichell. boy.
