Costume Halloween Hop Features Week In Quantico Society |Gen. and Mrs. Brecken ridge Hold Reception for Staft and Marine Stu dents. QUANTICO, Va., October 27,-The ball room at the officers' mess pre jented a gala scene tonight at the annual Halloween hop. Autumn leaves combined with shocks oi corn and pumpkin lanterns formed an effective background for the vari-colored cos tumes of the guests. Brig. Gen. and Mrs. James Brecken ridge gave a reception Thursday to the staff and students attached to the Marine Corps Schools. Mrs. De Witt Peck, Mrs. Robert Blake, Mrs. Sam Woods and Mrs. Lourle Stephen ion presided at the tea table. Col. and Mrs. Frank Schwable were hosts at dinner Thursday, when they entertained Maj. Gen. and Mrs. Harry Lee, Mrs. Ε. O. Saltmarsh, Capt. Wil liam N. Mann, U. S. N.( and Mrs. Mann; Lieut. Col. and Mrs. Paul Cap ron and Comdr. W. J. C. Agnew. Capt. and Mrs. William N. Mann gave a reception yesterday, when Mrs. Fegan, wife of Mai. Joseph Fegan of Washington; Mrs. Panul Capron. Mrs. Maurice Shearer and Mrs. Clarence Kress presided at the tea table. They were assisted by Miss Eveline Lee, Miss Mercedes Lee, Miss Elizabeth Barber, Miss Mary Miller Kress. Miss Priscilla Lutz and Miss Beverly Mann. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. McCubbin of Washington are spending the week end with Capt. and Mrs. Mann, who gave a dinner party at the officers' mess prior to the Halloween hop to night for their guests. Capt. Leonard Rea has reported here for duty as quartermaster of the Marine Corps Schools, and. with Mrs. Rea, is at Stafford Hall, In Fredericks burg, until Government quarters are available. Maj. and Mrs. Sam Woods enter tained at dinner tonight before the dance. Their guests were Maj. and Mrs. Le Roy Hunt, Maj. and Mrs. Graves Erskine, Maj. and Mrs. Robert Blake, Capt. and Mrs. William Cle ment, Capt. and Mrs. Franklin Steele and Lieut, and Mrs. Stuart King. Miss Margaret Sampsell, daughter of Comdr. and Mrs. Thomas Sampsell. was hostess at a costume ball at the officers' mess last evening. Capt. Kenneth Inman has reported here as motor transport officer, reliev ing Lieut. Orin Wheeler, who recently •was assigned to duty in Washington. Capt. and Mrs. Inman spent two months, since returning from Haiti, in Northern New York. At present they are living at Idlewild, on the Richmond Highway. Miss Peggy O'Neil. daughter of Capt. and Mrs. Stuart O'Neil of Edgewood Arsenal, is making an extended visit with Miss Katherine Cheatham and Miss Josephine Cheatham. Lieut, and Mrs. Marvin Starr and Lieut. Julian Humison of Annapolis j are spending this week end with j Capt. and Mrs. Franklin Topping Steel. Miss Betsy Anne Steele en tertained informally tonight in their honor, and later accompanied her guests to the hop. Capt. and Mrs. Howard S.
