ELECTION THREAT PROBE PROMISEE Film Stars, Supporting Up' ton Sinclair, Charge In timidation by Producers. By the Associated Press. SAN FRANCISCO, November 1.— Supporters of Upton Sinclair today promised a grand jury investigation of alleged attempts of motion picture producers to intimidate film stars who are sympathetic to the former Socialist and Democratic nominee for Governor. The latest development in the State's tense political campaign came late yesterday when David Sokol, an attorney, asked the Los Angeles County district attorney to institute a grand jury investigation of pur ported threats that film studio em ployes would be dismissed if they voted for the Democratic nominee. Katherine Hepburn Mentioned. Katherine Hepburn, screen actress, i was cited as "an example of an em ploye so threatened." Deputy District Attorney Daniel Beecher said studio executives will not be subpoenaed, but any person supposedly threatened whose names are furnished by Sokol's committee will be called before the grand jury. Sokol, writing on stationery headed "The Law Enforcement Committee of the County Central Committee of the ; Democratic Party," asked that Miss Hepburn and the heads of eight large studios be questioned regarding the asserted attempts at intimidation and said he would later request subpoenas for Douglas Fairbanks, Clark Gable, Will Rogers and other screen celebri ties. Actress to be Questioned. Miss Hepburn's studio said she ha not yet been Informed of the re quested inquiry, but Beecher disclose he had sent an Investigator to ques tion the actress. LATEST CUBAN BOMB KILLS GIRL, HURTS TWO Havana Department Store Scene of Explosion, Victim Daughter of Supreme Judge. By the Associated Press. HAVANA, November 1.—Authorities hunted clues today in Cuba's latest bombing outrage, which killed one girl in a department store and injured two other persons. Margarita Andreu, daughter of Justice Juan Carlos Andreu of the Supreme Court, was fatally injured yesterday when the bomb exploded in La Casa Grande, large midtown department store. Another girl, Gra ciela Cainas, was critically wounded. The store is under the same man agement as the El Encanto depart : ment store, which was bombed Au gust 18.
