CURB LIST BOLDS
MOST OfADVANCE
Oils, Specialties and Store
Shares Remain in Specu
lative Favor.

NEW YORK, November 8.—Prices
on the Curb Exchange were fairly well
maintained today, although there was
some profit-taking tn utilities and
alcohols which unsettled portions of
the list during the first hour. Trad
ing was not as active as in the pre
vious session.
Leading oil stocks, many of which
' made substantial gains in the late
rally Wednesday, continued In specu
lative favor along with specialties and
merchandising shares. Gains of 1 to 2
points were shown by Humble Oil,
Gulf Oil, Chesebro, Axton Fisher "A,"
Lerner Stores and Pittsburgh Plate
, Glass. Smaller advances occurred
in Swift Intemacionale, Lake Shore
Mines, International Petroleum, Alumi
num Co. and American Cynamid “B.”
A number of utilities and alcohols
were subjected to moderate profit
taking after showing some tendency
to advance right alter the opening.
American Gas held a fractional ad
vance. but Electric Bond & Share,
Niagara Hudson and Cities Service
yielded a trifle. Distillers Corp..
Seagram and Hiran Walker converted
a small gain into a loss after holding
steady during early trading.

Government report placing the in
dicated yield of cotton for this season
at 9.634.000 bales was slightly above
expectations, but without appreciable
effect on today's market. Early de
clines under some Southern selling
and liquidation extended another 2
or 3 points on the crop figures, but
after selling off to 12.27 for March,
or 7 points net lower, the market
steadied on covering and trade buy
ing March sold up to 12.35 and at
2 o'clock was holding around 12.31,
with active months showing net losses
of 2 or 3 points.

of Maryland leaf tobacco advanced
aharply last week, totaling 2,894 hogs
heads, while receipts declined to 426
hogsheads, leaving a stock In 8tate
tobacco warehouse! of 29,861 hogs

Interest is now being shown in the
low grades of leaf tobacco, which
heretofore have been Inactive, and
many hogsheads of the lower grades
were Included In last week’s total.
