The late David Belasco's popular melodrama, "The Girl of the Golden West," will be revived by Mary Pick iord and her stock company over VVRC from 8 to 8:30. Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd will describe discoveries made on his re cent flight in the Antarctic during the Little America program on WJSV at 10. Alex Gray, stage, screen and radio baritone, will continue to lead the "Broadway Varieties" program on WJSV at 8:30. He will feature the stirring "Roustabout Song" from the musical show, "Rain or Shine." John Charles Thomas has arranged a varied program for his broadcast on WMAL at 9:30. The selections range from "Danny Dever" to "Land of the Sky Blue Water." Business conditions in Europe will be discussed by Thomas J. Watson, president of the International Business Machines Corp. on WMAL at 10. (Note: WMAL and WJSV will broad cast at 5:45 a.m. tomorrow a descrip tion of the marriage in London of Prince George and Princess Marina.) BATTERY IN HAWAII WINS KNOX TROPHY Award for Army's Best Field Ar tillery Unit Goes to Scho field Barracks. By the Associated Press. The Knox Trophy, annually pre sented to the Army's most efficient Field Artillery battery, has been awarded to Battery B, 13th Field Ar titllery, stationed at Schofield Bar racks, Hawaii. The battery Is commanded by Capt. John W. Faulkconer, jr., of Tappa- I hannock, Va. The medal for excellence among | enlisted students at the Field Artil- I lery School was awarded Corpl. Roy L. Albright, Headquarters Battery, 2d Battalion. 15th Field Artillery, sta tioned at Fort Sam Houston, Tex. Albright's home is in Cairo, 111. The trophy is presented by the Society of the Sons of the Revolution in Massachusetts to the Battery in the Regular Army which has the highest efficiency rating, based on firing efficiency, tactical mobility, proficiency in communication and Interior economy. EARTHQUAKE RECORDED Georgetown U. Beports Disturb ance 9.500 Miles Away. An earthquake of moderate intensity was recorded yesterday at George town University, beginning at 1:33:26 a.m. It reached the maximum at 1:37 a.m. and ended at 4 a.m. The distance was placed at 9,500 miles away in an uncertain direction. The earthquake was described as being very deep in the earth. THE Christmas season will be celebrated over National Broad casting Co. networks with an elaborate and diversified sched ule of programs. Special broadcasts of music and seasonal ob servances will be relayed from mans foreign countries and from cities in the United States, bringing to listen ers famous choirs and orchestras, irama, grand opera and church serv ices on Christmas eve and Christmas day. Final arrangements have not yet been completed on a number of the special broadcasts, but the partial schedule already includes many out standing features: The famous catacombs in Rome, Italy, refuge of the early Christian martyrs, will be the scene of an inter national program. A liturgical service af ancient songs of the church will be sung by the Benedictine Choir of San Anselmo's Church. A description ol the Domitilla Catacombs will be given by Rev. William Michael Ducey, O. S. B.. of St. Anselmo's Priory in Washington, D. C., who is now in Rome. The King of England will send a Christmas greeting to America during a special holiday program, short waved by the British Broadcasting Corp. from 9 to 10:10 a.m. During the preceding hour, from 8 to 9 a.m., 25 nations throughout the world will be linked in a single broadcast which will bring the "Merry Christmas" wishes of many peoples in many tongues. "Hansel and Gretel," Humperdinck's famous Christmas opera, will be broad cast from the stage of the Metro politan Opera House over combined Ν. B. C. networks on the afternoon of Christmas day. A Christmas morning carol service In German will come to network listen ers from Zion Lutheran Church In Baltimore, one of the oldest churches In this country. A chorus of 350 voice.·: and a choir of trumpets will be heard, the broadcast also being sent by short-wave to audiences ui Germany. * * * * LETTERS that fans write to broad cast stations haven't been of a great deal of use outside of indicating who was listening to what program. But hereafter it's going to be different. They are to be used as the basis for a daytime feature by Columbia, begin ning Friday morning at 9. Under the program title of "Dear Columbia," the context of as many letters as possible will be dramatized. * * * * Circumstances involved in the failure of the A. B.
