SOCIETY The President and Mrs. Roosevelt Hosts Tonight to New York Delegation at Executive Mansion. THE President end Mrs. Roose velt will entertain at a recep tion this evening when their guests will be the New York delegation in Congress. Mrs. Roosevelt entertained the cab inet hostesses at luncheon at the White House today, and this after noon she will attend the recital of Lily Pons. French soprano of the Metropolitan Opera Co. The Ambassador of France and Mme. de Laboulaye will go to New York today to attend the banquet to morrow of the Franco-American So ciety. The Ambassador of Germany, Herr Hans Luther, will be host at dinner this evening. The Ambassador of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Mme. Troyanovsky will entertain a com pany at dinner this evening. The Ambassador of Spain and Senora de Calderon will be the ranking guests at dinner this evening of the Minister of Austria and Mme. Proch nik. The Ambassador of Brazil Senhor Oswaldo Aranha, is spending a few days In New York, where he was ac companied by the second secretary of the embassy, Mr. Decio de Moura. The Minister of Persio, Ghaffar Kahn Djalal, is in New York, where he went for the dinner of the Geneseo Society. Mrs. Close, wife of the Minister of the Union of South Africa, has issued cards for tea Thursday afternoon from 4:30 to β:30 o'clock in the legation at 1521 New Hampshire avenue. Mrs. Vandenberg, wife of Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg, will not be at home Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Robert Low Bacon, wife of Representative Bacon of New York, will be guest speaker to the Junior Republican Women »f the District of Columbia, at their regular meeting, February 7, 2:30 o'clock at the Na inm tional Capital Club on Scott Circle. Mrs. Bacon's continued and active Interest in public affaire and Repub lican organizations makes her com ments, at this time, of unusual in terest to the newly organised Junior Republican Women. Representative and Mrs. Sol Bloom and Miss Vera Bloom had guests with them in their box at the National Theater last evening to see Walter Huston In "Dodsworth," and among others in the audience were Mr. and Mrs. Harold N. Mrs. Harry Clay Ransley, wife of Representative Ransley of Pennsyl vania, is spending the week in At lantic City as the guest of her mother. Hancock, wife of Representative Hancock of New York, was a luncheon hostess yesterday at the Mayflower. Mrs. George T. Marye, widow of former American Ambassador to Rus sia, will be hostess at dinner this evening, entertaining at the 1925 F Street Club. Mrs. Marye is spending the Winter at the Mayflower, her house on Ν street at Connecticut avenue being closed. The military attache of the British Embassy and Mrs. Torr left today for Florida, and before they return the early part of March they will visit in Cuba. Col. and Mrs. Torr are making the trip South to recuperate from illness. The military attache of the Mexican Embassy and Senora de Azarate were hosts at dinner Saturday evening in their apartment in the Westchester, their guests being members of the embassy staff and their wives. Mrs. William Fitch Kelley was hostess at luncheon yesterday at the Mayflower, hating as her guests Mrs. Alvin T. Hert. vice chairman of the National Republican Committee; Mrs. L. R. The former United States Ambas sador to Cuba and Mrs. Harry F. Gug genheim. are at the Mayflower during their visit in Washington until to night. Mr. Guggenheim is here for a meeting of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. They are going South from the Capital. Mr. Guggenheim stopping off in North Carolina for a few days' shooting and Mrs. Guggenheim going direct to Florida. Mr. Clarence Hewes entertained at a tea yesterday afternoon in his home on Massachusetts avenue in honor of Princess Margaret Draper Boncom pagni, who Is staying at the Mayflower Hotel during her visit in Washington. Princess Boncompagni was formerly Miss Margaret Draper, who made her debut here some years ago. The engagement of Miss Constance Phillips of La Marne, N. Dak., to Mr. John M. Ducey of Chicago, was an nounced at a dinner party at the home of Miss Teresa di Francesco Saturday evening. Since that time he has been studying art in this country and abroad. The wedding will take place early In June. Rear Admiral and Mrs. Thomas C. Hart are spending the week in Wash ington at the Mayflower, where the latter's parents, Rear Admiral and Mrs. W. H. Brownson, occupy an apart ment. Admiral Hart will return to the Pacific Coast when he leaves Wash ington and Mrs. Hart will go back to their home In Sharon, Conn.
