GEORGIA HUSBANDS LOOK FOR NEW DEAL Bill Entitling Them to DraW Ali mony Favorably Reported to House. Bt the Associated Press. ATLANTA. Ga.. March 2.—Hus bands are looking to the Georgia , Legislature for a new deal in the game of marriage and divorce. ' A bill to entitle husbands to draw alimony from their wives has been reported favorably by a committee In the House of Representatives. Commenting on his measure, Repre sentative H. B. Edward of Valdosta said it was merely putting women on a parity with men. "Women are holding public offices; they are sheriffs, prison wardens and have been governors and senators," Edwards said. "Women are taking men's revenue and since they equal him in public office why should they not equal him in private life?" Church Group to Unite. Members of Cavalry M. E. Church South will organize a men's brother hood at a meeting. March 6, at 8 p.m., it was announced yesterday. All those interested are urged to attend. EARLY ACTION SEEN ON PENSION BILL House Probably Will Act on Measure at Next District Day, March 11. The old-age pension bill for the District of Columbia, in conformity with the national legislation recom mended by President Roosevelt, prob ably will be acted upon in the House on the next District day, March 11. Chairman Jenckes of the subcom mittee in charge of this bill expecte to make a favorable report to the House District Committee Wednesday and anticipates it will be approved by the full committee. Mrs. Jenckes has called a special meeting of her subcommittee to get a formal report to the full committee. She emphasized that she does not Intend to open up lengthy hearings, because she considers the subject was fully discussed at hearings last year. Ralph H. Campbell, executive secre tary of Columbia Polytechnic Institute for the Blind, Inc., today submitted to the District Commissioners, Corp oration Counsel Prettyman and Repre sentative Jenckes a propoeed amend ment for the old-age pension measure to, take care of blind persons. He pointed out that there are now 221 blind persons 50 years or over In Dis trict institutions. U. S. FACING CRISIS, DR. WALSH ASSERTS G. U. Vice President Discusses Revolutionary Tendencies of New Seal. Revolutionary tendencies on the surface of the New Deal were dis cussed Friday night by Dr. Edmund A. Walsh, S. J., vice president of George town University. In the third of his series of public lectures on "The Prog ress of Revolutionary Thought." The country Is faced with a crisis second only to that which threatened the life of the new-born Republic In 1787 on the eve of the Constitutional Convention, he declared, and similar to that before the Civil War. "If we have truly come to the end of an epoch, as Mr. Wallace, Secre tary of Agriculture, announced this week," he asked, "what historic sign poet is available to mark the turning of a new corner? "I should say we are in that phase of 'speech-reaction' which students of revolution find present In all authentic social upheavals. This uni versal unloosening of the tongues does not always lead to revolt, but does Indicate the direction of the current and the rate of its flow. "The country has transformed itself into a huge open forum. It is mat ter of record that a similar phenome non preceded both the French and thê Russian revolutions, and marked the definite psychological prelude to our own revolution and Civil War. LUNACY BILL DISCUSSED Trade Committee Asks Changea in Commission Rules. Members of the Law Committee of the Washington Board of Trade Fri day voted that members of the proposed new lunacy commission far the District be appointed by the Jus tices of District Supreme Court and not by the District Commissioners, as provided in the propoeed bill to be offered in Congress. The committee also favored a part time commission instead of one paid full-time salaries. George W. Oflutt, chairman, presided at ths session.
